MacJ214284
I have installed Kalyway on my Gateway Laptop, no other OSs just Kalyway fresh install. I am sick of using Windows, but haven't broken down enough to buy a Mac. After installing, I have booted the machine, logged in without any problems (except for the occasional dead pixel that follows my cursor, which I am sure will be fixed once I am fully updated, and gotten my video drivers). However, my friend gave me a cd with the Kalyway updates on it and they are as follows: Kalyway 10.5.2 Combo Update 1, Intel Combo 1, 10.5.2 Kernals, and 10.5.4 Combo Update. Now I installed the 10.5.2 combo update 1st, upon completion, it asked me to reboot, but before I could, the entire machine just froze, (a common windows occurance). I had no way to unlock it but to hold down the power button. The computer shutdown and upon restart everything seemed ok. I ran the kernals update, then the intel update, but upon the 10.5.4 update, the machine froze once more before the completion of the update now causing my machine to have a kernal panic. Would anyone know if I just installed these in the wrong order, or if there is something else that keeps making this machine freeze? It's a great machine that runs beautifully when it is not infected with viruses as it was with XP (hence the change over to OS X). Any help would be appreciated. The specs for my machine are in my signature. i*C
10.5.3 i assume was included in 10.5.4 combo update right? If thats the case, you have to install costume kernel package before restarting your system... otherwise 10.5.3 will barake your system... thats as far i know... i have updated to 10.5.3 first by installing combo and then kernel package and then reboot.... 10.5.4 doesnt require any modification it can be downloaded straight from apple if you vanilla install Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121630-trouble-installing-updates-for-os-x-on-pc-laptop/#findComment-860466 Share on other sites
MacJ214284
Actually no, come to find out, my friend didn't put the 10.5.3 combo/kernal update on the cd, so I had to reformat, reinstall, and get the 10.5.3 update off the bay. Once I got that, I finally got updated to 10.5.3 with some minor bumps and bruises, but got there all the same. The major problem now is installing the 10.5.4 combo. I ran the install but it didn't finish all the way before my screen dimmed and popped up with a picture like so: http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k126/mac...macdeath1_o.jpg Now it won't boot up and gives the Debugger called: <panic> error. Any ideas before reformatting and trying this whole song and dance again? Jeans.
