awerhane
Hello All, First of all, thanks for providing so much information on this site. It has been an incredible resource. My question is What determines whether Leopard installs/runs in 64bit mode? I have an HP xw4400 workstation with the E6320 and a motherboard with an intel 975e chipset. I have been able to install Leopard 10.5.4 using the AtKOS disc (pretty much using the default options), and it seems to run great -- only it appears to be running in 32-bit mode. Because this is running in 32-bit mode, I cannot install the Java Upgrade to get to Java 6 SE as the installer says it requires an Intel chip capable of running in 64 bit mode. At what point is the "bit mode" determined? During install? Or is there a boot flag option that can be toggled back and forth? Is there an option I need to check? Or is this related to the EFI, and perhaps it only supports 32 bit mode? Looking at Geekbench and searching through forums, it appears that people have been able to get their hackintosh running in 64bit mode, but I'm really not clear on which step I'm missing to acheive that. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! -aw Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121249-clarification-on-64-bit-install-requirements/ Share on other sites
shanus
Leopard as a whole doesn't run in 64bit mode. Only a few processes run in 64 bit - that's it. Snow Leopard that is currently in development will be the first real 64 bit OS X. You have an issue somewhere else I'd say...
