Wireless card not even detected

Hey all,

 

Search seems to be down. I have a Gateway NX860X laptop that has a Intel 945PM board and a, now, apple airport extreme wireless pci-e card. My problem is that system profiler does not show that the card is even installed. Anyone run across anything like this or know of a solution? Thanks in advance.

Is this a real apple AirPort 11n card or just something that is claimed to be an apple card?

 

Install the PCIUtils v3.0.0 (look in XLabs for it)

I'm fairly certain that it's a genuine Apple Airport Extreme card, but my old intel 4965 card wasn't even detected either and I know people had it detected at least.

I'm fairly certain that it's a genuine Apple Airport Extreme card, but my old intel 4965 card wasn't even detected either and I know people had it detected at least.

Well, this sorta looks like an apple card however, it has a subsystem device ID of 0x0088 and might b a clone, you are the first that I know of to have these ID's in their card.

 

What happens if you execute the following command:

sudo kextload -vt /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext

Aside from that, you installed the card, was the apple name/logo etched onto the metal on the front and rear of the card

I will try that command when I get home from work. When I installed it, I didn't look that closely at the card but I don't remember seeing an apple logo either, but I did see the apple name. I will pull it out when I get home and double check. I got it from someone at school who swore up and down that it was a genuine apple card. It wouldn't surprise me if it's just a clone and he wanted to get rid of it either.

Ok, tried the command and I get a message saying that the kext doesn't exist. I looked in the IO80211 kext and the applre broadcom one does not exist. where can i get it?

Thank you to everyone who helped me with this issue. I did get it resolved. I ended up pulling IO80211family.kext out of the iAtkos v4i install cd under intel/network and this version had the correct brcm kext in it. I installed it, ran the kext load command mentioned earlier and now my airport card is working like a champ! thanks again.
