audioboi Posted August 15, 2008 Author Share Posted August 15, 2008 Here's how I changed my Compaq Presario X1000 bios whitelist: I. Getting the Rom files 1. Downloaded the latest bios 2. Run the exe file but didn't apply it 3. Went to C:\swsetup\sp30915\ and extracted 0860F55.cab 4. Two files were extracted: rom.bin and rom.sig II. Editing the Rom files 1. Opened rom.bin using a hexeditor 2. Searched for "43 10 86 80" --> PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1043&SUBSYS_25278086 Only found one: 43 10 86 80 22 25 3. Changed it to: "20 42 86 80 41 27" --> PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4220&SUBSYS_27418086 4. Saved the file III. Making the rom.cab 1. Used cabpack to make a cabinet archive that contains rom.bin From this point, I already patched the HPQFlash.exe and renamed it to HPQFlashNoCRC.exe. Then, I placed the rom.cab together with HPQFlashNoCRC.exe in a directory. Before, I flashed it, I flashed the original (unmodified) bios using HPQFlashNoCRC.exe and it worked. After the reboot, I flashed the modified bios and received the error. I then changed my wireless lan card and was able to boot again. It probably works only on WinXP and with the BIOS files from that era. audioboi got lucky - he needed to change just the subsys ID and the device ID ... and in his case he did not have to correct any bytes for a CRC check etc... (intel graphic) I download bios find rom.cam extract and using hex editor on file rom.bin But i not have a information what i must change to using another wifi card. Someone can tell me?
