minnie
Hi All. After much research it's reported that the Linksys WMP300N can have problems connecting at n speeds when used in OSX. Something to do with n not being standardised and still in draft mode. It is advised to limit it to g speeds and everything goes fine. Mine is reporting as Aiport Extreme but the Airport Utility won't detect it. Does anyone have Airport Utility going or is there an alternative utility to limit the WMP300N to only operate at g speed?? OR Does anyone have an Atheros 5008 chip working properly as Airport and how? OR Does anyone have an Atheros 5008 chip working properly as Airport and how? Where are you getting this information from???? Please find a new source of information, your current source is seriously flawed. There is nothing wrong with using this wireless adapter in 11n mode. The AirPort Utility is not for the wireless adapter but for Apple AirPort wireless base stations. There are several variants on the 5008 and I have several different versions in my possession which include laptop and desktop adapters. The 5008 can come in b/g/n or a/b/g/n configurations, I prefer the latter for obvious reasons. I have rebranded Atheros and Broadcom cards to obtain the proper required functionality and the WMP300N is a good candidate as it improves performance which is in part related to the subsystem ID's which affect driver selection. So while your off the shelf WMP300N ver1.0 works as an AirPort (Third Party Card), the ones I sell work as real Apple Airport cards. Unfortunately at this time (last time I checked) I was the only person able to rebrand Broadcom based 11n cards and the software I use is not publicly available. I even had wireless adapters custom made for the hacintosh community by both Atheros and Broadcom that function flawlessly which may never see the light of day because the community as a whole appears to be unable to afford or uninterested in a plug n play quality product and would rather go the cheaper USB route despite the issues related to drivers and functionality of USB wireless devices. minnie
Hmn. Well, the problem is that I plug it in, replace the 3 kexts: IO80211family, IONetworkingfamily, IOPCI Family. It's detected as real Airport, although not listed in PCI devices. It comes up in the Networking CP, It can see the network etc', seems like it's all fine, then whenever I try to connect it times out. So I searched for WMP300n timeout error and found that info on the apple forums. Any advice?
