coolied
Hey all, stupid question regarding a problem with my Leo install on my Aspire 5920 (the x3100 model, not the 5920G). Installed with Kaly 10.5.2 DVD, vanilla kernel and no graphics kexts selected. It works fine, and boots into Leopard with full QE/CI acceleration and looks wonderful. The weird thing is, I had to add a graphics mode string to the com.apple.boot.plist file to get it to boot at all, before this it would hang at the Apple logo. Now, it generally works fine, although once in a while (1 in 10 boots) it will either a ) stop booting at the Apple logo, before the progress indicator pops up (much like it did 100% of the time without the graphics mode key) or b ) the blue pre-logon screen will come on, and then the screen turns into a multitude of colored lines, like a rainbow (literally all 1280 columns of pixels are a different color) and I have to hard-power-down and restart (which usually works fine) current OSX install: 9.4.0 vanilla kernel Apple-native x3100GMA kext USB fix 1.3 original install was Kalyway 10.5.2, applied 10.5.3 comboupdate (Kalyway) and then 10.5.4 Apple delta update not working: wireless (3454ABG, now awaiting my Dell 1390) and ethernet (Broadcom? I believe) So, basically just wondering what could cause the occasional graphics corruption at login; and also why I need to use a graphics mode key in my plist to start up. It seems to hang at "Waiting for boot device with UUID xxxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxx" or something like that. Before adding the graphic mode string, Leopard would literally only get past this error if I had the install DVD in the drive, otherwise it would hang. Almost like the install DVD drive (which was USB external) is the drive with that UUID, and it hangs because it's not present. So anyone have any ideas? Oh, and one more oddity. If I put the system to sleep, it awakens immediately and the event log indicates that "an OHCI device prompted a wake event" or something of the type. EDIT: and if anyone wonders why I don't just install an injector for my x3100, it's because last time I tried that (had it installed once before) I had no QE/CI acceleration, the graphics kext was loaded, but no matter what I did, HW acceleration was out of the question. The way it's working now is an acceptable tradeoff if no one has any clue what is wrong, just grasping at straws here but was wondering if having 3GB of RAM is a problem on a hack for some reason? Shouldn't be with a Vanilla/EFI boot install, but one never knows, and I still consider myself an OSX86 newb. coolied
Bumping my topic, with a new problem. Got my 1390 card, it doesn't work in the Aspire 5920 (Vista OR Leopard) - actually, let me rephrase that. It will be detected and work on the first boot after installation. On the next boot, the BIOS will report "System Configuration Changed" and the card is not visible in Vista or Leopard. The only way to get it to show up again is to physically remove the card, and then reinsert it. However, listing the PCI devices with OSX86Tools will show that the card does indeed exist on the PCIe bus. I've searched and cannot find any info on changing the WiFi card on the 5920/BIOS whitelists/etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120627-gma-x3100aspire-5920-problem-kaly-1052-1054/#findComment-876187 Share on other sites
