Motherboard: XFX NForce 790i Ultra SLI

Ram: 4 GB OCZ Platinum 1800 mhz

Gpu: XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 Black Edition

HDD: WD Caviar Blue 640GB (Sata 2)

Os: Windows Vista Ultimate

I want to dual boot vista and mac.

I want to know if is possible to get vannila kernel.

Mybe EFI but i also need some help there.

Thank u.

I think ALOT of people know... but alot of people are tired of constantly replying to the same threads over and over. "insert my system specs here" and then have someone else do the research and legwork for me.

thats the common theme lately thats been going around. Originally there were alot of troubleshooting and help posts, but since most people have vanilla up and running, and once your 100% there is no reason to really fiddle with more stuff, you don't get as many troubleshooting requests...

sooooooo....

to help you out.

you have a Nforce motherboard, which means

a) you can't run vanilla

 you need ANY distrbution that supports NFORCE kernel, ie Kalyway 10.5.2 / iATKOS / LEO4ALL

I prefer Kalyway 10.5.2 but it really comes down to which DVD will boot with your hard drive, DVD drive, SATA, IDE, etc, etc, etc...

sometimes you hvae to switch jumper pins, change cables, set master /slave, and or use IDE or SATA drives in combination to get it to boot up without giving you a

"cannot find root device" or the SANS Read/write error.

I'd look for information on your motherboard with the search button or use http://www.osx86library.com

hope this is a good start.

yes and no.

for example.

Lets say you go out and buy Logic Studio. which alot of people are building Pro macs to do. Well, if you own logic studio, you can use the apple updater to download a new update for Logic, or Pro applications. maybe iTunes will have a new update, or something like that... etc...

those types of things, you can use software update.

the thing you can't use software update for is system updates. Like system 10.5.4 or etc. They modify certain files back to "original" or "vaniila" settings and once modified your system will fail to work.

There are ways of updating to 10.5.4 with sofware update but its definetally manual and not apple automated like the software update is intended for.

Also, its safe to say that just because I can update from 10.5 to 10.5.4 with a vanilla mac now, doesn't nessacarily mean that in the future I will always be able to update.

Vanilla only means it uses the default apple kernel, and hopefully all your drivers are internal from the DVD or EFI strings, etc.
