LegoBrain
I already own a MacBook Pro and a Mini, but I want to get a more power in my line up. I'd like to build a bad ass (from a speed perspective) machine with the best components. When I say best, I mean the ones that will give me the most flexibility with Leopard with the least amount of problems. I've already installed a few distro's of Leopard on some hardware I had around, like a Dell Optiplex 755 and a GX620. While the installs sort of worked, I suffered with one or more of the following: No audio No NIC Inability to change resolutions Just to name a few. My next project is to build an optimal desktop that would put any current Mac Pro a run for the money. I'd also like to be able to update via Apple's software as needed so I don't have to keep hacking at it. I know this is a tall order, but what can the great minds offer in terms of guidance? I read the thread on how to build a perfect mac for < $250, so consider this a similar thread...but at the other end of the performance spectrum. I'd also like it to be stable...something that I could use for the main machine in the family. Thanks in advance for you suggestions. Donw35
sounds like a power MAC would be the best choice with your requirements, although you can build a PC to run OS X none of them are 100% compatible and every update can change things. my 2 cents Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/120261-optimal-hardware-for-leopard/#findComment-850921 Share on other sites
LegoBrain
I understand that any update from Apple has the potential to kill something/anything, so I guess I am looking for the best hardware to start with. Again, my goal would be to make a rig that screams. alamoa
With kaly 10.5.2-10.5.4 you will have a fully stable system without no need to upgrade in the next four years. Today You can build an osx86 with a dual quad cpu dual 8800gtx everything working. Just do a small search. I have built several mid range to work with FCP and they are working 24/7 in video editing using FCP. For me updating all the time is not an issue compared to stability and reliability. LegoBrain
Thanks. I want to be on 10.5 + so I can leverage Time Machine. FWIW: I tried Kalyway 10.5.2 and it was a big NO GO on my old Dell GX620.
