Hello,

A few days ago I had a machine with which finder kept on crashing and relaunching (The little dot under it kept flashing), The machine suffered a range of unwanted reboots and then finally frooze on the grey apple logo screen.

I booted with -v and got the message package 0 didn't get a HPET.

I tired all the stuff I could find about this error (deleting prefs, power management ktexts etc) This did not work.

So i decided to restore my machine using the Time machine backup, the machine then failed to boot (Due to lack of EFI now being on system?)

So i decided to do a full reinstall and than select to transfer my info over my the time machine backup.

However on the install screen it now says "Cannot validate BaseSystem".

Which is odd as I already installed it fine on excatly the same system. This comes up when it is calculating time remaining and after it has verified the disk.

I have tried formatted the drive, checking it for errors etc, seems fine.

I did a search and a lot of people with this error are having issues with Ram sticks, I have upgraded my RAM since my first install, however I took that stick out and still the same problem. The machine boots fine into windows.

i'm getting really frustrated with it!!

Im dualbooting with xp and kalway 10.5.2, so this might not be a related problem. However, I had problems reinstalling too. I had to enter GParted (its out there for downloading) and uncheck the boot-flag that I had in my previous install added to my winxp-partition. Then the reinstall worked fine

Ahh good for you

Don't think it is related to me, I do have Windows XP, but due to lack of Sata cables that drive is not plugged in when installing Leopard as I need one for the DVD and one for the Leopard drive! (I only have two cables)

I do normally leave the DVD off and have the two drives, but I select which drive I boot too via the Bios boot options, plus I've wipped the drive completely now!
