tdream
Hi, I am trying to figure a way to get the 10.4.4 HOTISO DVD to boot on an AMD Sempron laptop. Obviously the DVD is set up to run an Intel kernel but trying to install a patched AMD kernel on an ISO seems very hard to do and i dont know of a way to do it. Anyway. Does anyone know of a way to perhaps get some of the contents of the DVD onto a VMware hardrive or native hard drive to somehow make the dvd boot the kernel from somewhere else so its compatible with AMD? I know people have got OS X going on AMD but im sure that involved having an OS X version running on Intel and then patching to work on AMD, but i dont have an Intel any ideas? Jonny.pt
You're going to have a problem. AMD Sempron, don't have SSE3, you're going to get a slow system. But the best way for you to try it. Is first to install the 10.4.3 version first, with the SSE3 disable patch. If you want to patch 10.4.4, it's very easy and you can find some tutorials, in the wiki of osx86. Sorry for the english. tdream
Thanks for the reply, ironically i have figured out how to do all i just asked for. I can now boot 10.4.4 (patched by me) on any AMD Sempron processor without the need for a prior install of anything. So just take DVD stick it in an AMD and the install just works... If anyone else needs these instructions then request them here, if there are many requests then i'll post a step by step guide on here because as far as i can tell the AMD non-geeks have been left in the cold... else i'll assume everyone worked it out too Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11975-amd-booting-1044-hotiso/#findComment-77568 Share on other sites
casserole
I would appreciate that (my post in the OC forum: "Socket 939 board running flawlessly anywhere?" got no replies, which may be designative). tdream
Here's my first attempt at a guide, I have done it for VMware first because that is what im doing right now and found it easiest to do the instructions for. Will do a native guide soon! AMD Sempron OS X HOTiSO install instructions =================================== Version 1.0 As requested a half decent guide in which you can follow to either install in VMware on an AMD Sempron computer (or other AMD possibly) or try a native install with one tweak. This has been written so hopefully the non-technical hopefully will understand. The software in the What you need section can be google'd and is freely available but in the spirit of not providing links I have left them out. If for some reason I have left something out of something needs changing I leave it up to the public to post an updated guide and make it more complete. Please increment the version of the guide too for ease of locating the latest version. What you need: An AMD Sempron PC 10.4.4 HOTiSO (search for that) VMware Server (free) UltraISO (optional is ISO image available) DaemonTools 3.4.7 (free) TransMac (free) WinRAR (optional) The Guide: This guide is based on the assumption you are viewing this on a Windows XP pc that is already running. Start off by acquiring the 10.4.4 HOTiSO off a popular file sharing network. Once you have this (most people will already have it) you might be wondering what to do with all the bits to join them back together like I was. Use WinRAR to stitch all the files back together and create an ISO which you can work with. Install UltraISO now if you haven’t already. Double click on the ISO image you created. Go to the actions menu and select 'Switch to HFS Volume'. Look for the Patch_Solution folder (cant use the name) and drag it to your desktop. Use will use the content of the folder to patch the mach_kernel and make OS X installer boot. Close UltraISO. Open up the patch folder and make a copy of the file 'mach_kernel.orig' to the desktop and rename right click on it and click Properties. Make sure Read-only is unchecked. Close the Properties box. Rename the mach_kernel.orig file to mach_kernel and in the patch folder double click the ppf-o-matic3 folder then double click ppfgui the double click WINDOWS then double click PPF-O-MATIC3 then open the application ppf-o-matic3. Now with the ppf app open you want to locate and load the mach_kernel file on your desktop you created into the ISO File box by clicking on the disk icon. To see the file you want to change Files of type from CD images to All files. Once that is chosen you have to choose the following patch files and apply them one after the other to the mach_kernel file. The patch files are located in the patch folder / Kernel_Patchfiles. The patch files order for booting in VMware is: patch-base.ppf patch-sse2.ppf patch-amd_enabler.ppf patch-vmware_enabler.ppf patch-rtc_panic.ppf Once you have done this you have a bootable kernel for an AMD. If you arent using VMware leaving out the patch-vmware_enabler.ppf should enable you to create a native install DVD. Now’s time to install TransMac to get the kernel onto the ISO you have. Install TransMac and double click on the Transmac icon. The top portion of the app are the files on your PC you want to locate the desktop where the mach_kernel file is and on the bottom portion is the mac bit. Click on the Mac drive pull down menu and select Volume image file and locate the ISO file which for me I put on the desktop. Double click on the HFS+ Volume to see the contents and now drag the mach_kernel from the PC side to the Mac ISO side, the program will ask you to confirm a few options, just agree with the defaults and then confirm to over write the previous mach_kernel file. Now the ISO is patched. Now install VMware which took a bit of time to install and enter your registration code which should be in your email, you may or may not have to reboot your computer. Start up VMware and create a new virtual machine, for the options of the new machine it’s pretty forgiving just choose Other for the OS and FreeBSD or Other. Make sure networking is off for now and just create an 8gig partition on your HD. You can allocate the space now, it doesn’t really matter. Now you have a virtual machine set-up. Now for people that have DVD drives you can just burn the ISO to a DVD and skip this bit but for people that don’t like me on this computer right now you can use this method for getting the install going. Install DaemonTools 3.4.7 this will require a restart for the install to complete. Then on the taskbar you will see a new icon. Click on this new icon and select the empty drive E (may be different on your system) an open dialog will appear. Locate the ISO you patched and double click on it. The new DVD drive will be available in My Computer and it will be just like a DVD drive with the disk in but without the noise. Anyway... Go back to VMware and click on the new machine you created and click on the cd icon which will open a cd drive dialog. change the default drive to E: (depending on your system this may be different, just select the drive letter DaemonTools 3.4.7 created). Now close that window and press the Play arrow to start the machine and click in the window. Press ESC to select a drive and arrow down to CD_ROM and press return, when the DVD boot screen comes up just press return and if you have had any luck the normal Apple installer will all run nice and you can proceed with the install. You need to format the virtual drive now to be able to select it in the list. Go to the top menu that has the application Disk Utility in it and wait for it to load. Select the top drive once that is up and choose Erase. Leave defaults and give your drive a name, something simple and NO SPACES. Click erase and the drive will be sorted out for you. Close Disk Utility when that has finished and you will be able to select the drive when you come to choose your volumes. The install now takes place and hopefully nothing will go wrong.... Once done the computer will restart in 30seconds or you can press restart. When the computer does it shouldn’t do much except sit with a flashing while line or something similar or it will restart off the DVD. This is fine. Just start up off the DVD as you were going to install again but this time press F8 when asked and on the boot options line type: rd=disk0s2 -s Press return. This will boot you up in single user mode on the hard drive. Now type the following commands pressing return after each line: fsck -fy mount -uw / This will mount the hardrive and allow you to run the final patch. Type ls to list the contents of your hard drive, you should see a amd patcher folder to get into this folder just type: cd (then the first 3 letters of the folder name then press tab to fill the rest in for you) press return. Now type: chmod 755 patcher ./patcher cpuid_patches.txt | tee result.txt | less Press return and it should do some technical stuff... once it’s done or you think its done type reboot and press return or restart your virtual machine. You should now have Mac OS X installed and working on your AMD equipped PC Thanks for reading Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11975-amd-booting-1044-hotiso/#findComment-77671 Share on other sites
