Also, I currently have my headset (Tritton AX360) going into the optical input on the motherboard. Any ideas if that will work, or if I'll have to use the 3.5mm plugs? It depends on if, when you install the AL883 driver kexts, you get an optical output..... See here..... I suggest that you run the NVkush installer........ thenorthpoleproject.com
Quick question before I head out. I downloaded the following kexts: 1. kext helper b7, which I assume I simply unzip and run? 2. Tulip 1.0.2 driver (for the Linksys card I read up on and got free from work) 3. ALC883 driver for audio With the kext helper on my desktop, do I simply drag/drop the kext files for the Tulip and audio driver into the program? That's what it says to do, but the Tulip driver instructions say to do it manually. I seem to notice all the zip files have a __MACOSX folder (I'm viewing the zip on Ubuntu), what is this used for? Do I need it? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119549-error-w-firewire-security-on-install/page/2/#findComment-856013 Share on other sites
verdant
Quick question before I head out. I downloaded the following kexts: 1. kext helper b7, which I assume I simply unzip and run? Yep......it is an application.....and the web site has instructions on how to use it 2. Tulip 1.0.2 driver (for the Linksys card I read up on and got free from work) OK......but also check here too..... 3. ALC883 driver for audio OK..... With the kext helper on my desktop, do I simply drag/drop the kext files for the Tulip and audio driver into the program? I would drop the kexts in one at a time to be on the safe side.......i.e. get audio working first......then sort out networking...... That's what it says to do, but the Tulip driver instructions say to do it manually. I seem to notice all the zip files have a __MACOSX folder (I'm viewing the zip on Ubuntu), what is this used for? Do I need it? When you installed OS X, did you also install Stuffit Expander.......if not download and install it......it will expand zip files within OX........therefore no problems....... thenorthpoleproject.com
I am elated to be browsing this site on OSX! The tulip driver worked perfectly with the Linksys card, but OSX was unfortunately unable to run the Intel Pro 100 ethernet card native. Plugged it in and got nothing. Anyway, SOUND ALSO WORKS! However, not through the optical or SPDIF input. Any suggestions on that? Trying the kext for video now. Cross your fingers! Video is a no go. After running the NVkush installer, I reboot to a blue screen. Reading the notes, I tried doing: F8 for boot prompt -s mount -uw / /movevideodrivers And chose yes on NVidia, no on ATI, and yes on the third option. Should I have just done NVidia? Can I redo it? Carry out the following, assuming you are running 10.5.2..... After rebooting by typing -s at the boot: prompt and waiting for the prompt :/ root# to appear (I had to boot -s twice and press Enter after the static cursor appeared to get the prompt; you may not need to), type each of the following lines, followed by Enter and then waiting for :/ root# to re-appear: mount -uw / rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Ge*.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.kext BTW by third option do you mean you picked "Intel GMA"......this is an integrated graphics chipset which your MOBO does not have.... followed finally by exit. "logout" will then appear on screen followed by "Jettisoning kernel linker" and the rest of the verbose booting screen.....report if the System Profiler shows under Graphics/Displays: 1024x768 resolution 32-bit Color depth and 32MB VRAM with Software Driven CI and QE Not Supported, and against Kernel Extension Info: No kext loaded Then from http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87901 Download Mysticus C*'s 10.5.2 Graphics Update Installer and run the "10.5.2 Full Gfx Update v1.1.mpkg" file with ONLY the following options selected: 1.0Gfx Update + Latest Macbook (selected by default) Y Main Kernel & System Drivers – (Second folder) VGA – Nvidia – NVinject256MB Y (All other RAM options N) And reboot with -v -f and report what happens..... thenorthpoleproject.com
haxi, I took the big step (because at this point if I have to buy a new video card, so be it) and formatted/installed 10.5.2 on my raptor drive, formatting over Windows, and now at a clean install. Go big or go home, eh? Anyway, do I still need to: rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/GeForce.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/Ge*.kext rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/NV*.kext Or just move forward with the Mysticus C* package? If you have installed Kalyway 10.5.2 you should be OK......I personally found that the base drivers in the iATKOS v2.0i 10.5.2 install could not drive my GeForce 8600GT GFX card......so I had to do the above. So, if you are not getting any error messages on booting from the Raptor HDD OS X install, as in this extract from my blogged Install Guide.... On the required restart by the installer DVD, booting up with -v -f (generally recommended after installation) may fail with a kernel panic depending on your nVidia graphics card model; hence my initially installing without any graphics driver selected (see below) : Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.GeForce(5.2.4)@0x7fab3000->0x7fb39fff dependency: com.apple.NVDAResman(5.2.4)@0x7f873000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(1.5)@0x7f865000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.4.1)@0x77a36000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(1.5.1)@0x7f849000 com.apple.NVDAResman(5.2.4)@0x7f873000->0x7fab2fff dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(1.5)@0x7f865000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.4.1)@0x77a36000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(1.5.1)@0x7f849000 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task Mac OS version: 9C7010 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.0: Tue Feb 5 16:13:22 PST 2008; root:xnu-1228.3.13~1/RELEASE_I386 This kernel panic points to a GeForce Driver(s) error.... at least for my GeForce 8600GT 256MB graphics card..... even though I had picked no nVidia drivers! Thus the base OS X system drivers could not drive my GeForce 8600GT.... If you have a similar kernel panic do not expect to see the same hexadecimal numbers as in the example above..... then you should be OK to just move forward with the Mysticus C* package....... thenorthpoleproject.com
Steps taken: Unpack zip file Run "10.5.2 Full Gfx Update v1.1.mpkg and run it. Click on Customize and install only the NVinject256MB Finish installation successfully Reboot with options -v -f Got me to a blank blue screen on bootup right before it normally goes to GUI. thenorthpoleproject.com
I'm also randomly getting the "You need to restart your computer. For your 7000 series GeForce card, you need framebuffer : NVDAResman.kext (all geforce boards) accel : NVDANV40Hal.kext (NV40 GPU) so try Natit instead of NVinject.....or since you have removed all Ge* and NV* kexts, try NVkush again.... OK having removed the NV* and Ge* files, install the Natit.kext driver in the 10.5.2 Full Gfx Update v1.1.mpkg package because you can then run 1.0Gfx Update + Latest Macbook (selected by default) again as well..... If, after doing this, you are booting to OSX perfectly but limited to 1024x768, then try this Edit in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>"your monitor native resolution"x"monitor colour depth"</string> via 1. Go to the Terminal, and at the $ prompt, type in CODE sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist 2. Enter your password when requested. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the cursor within the Terminal window. 3. Type in (without any spaces anywhere) CODE 1280x1024x32 between <string> and </string> under <key>Graphics Mode</key>. 4. Move the cursor the Terminal window down until it no longer moves, then press ^O and then Enter, to save the modified com.apple.Boot.plist file. 5. Press ^X to Exit and type "exit" at the $ prompt to log out of the Terminal and then close and quit Terminal. 12. I rebooted with -v and Repaired Permissions, I do hope Natit works for you (AFIK the NVinject version in the 10.5.2 Full Gfx Update v1.1.mpkg package is NVinject version 0.2.1..... Also check the max. resolution and colour depth your GFX card ("GeForce 7900 GT/GTO") supports...... If Natit does not work then download and try in order: (i) NVinject version 0.2.0 (ii) NVinject version 0.1.3....this version has you card DeviceID, i.e. "0x0291" hardcoded in from here....site includes instructions...... weber82
You do of course realise that getting a Mac Pro will spoil you as regards any other computer you try afterwards....... but the comparison can be enjoyed even more if you get the PC running OS X to compare with the "everything just works and OTB too" Mac Pro!........ I spent some time getting OS X 10.4.11 Tiger running on a PC awhile back. The challenge of getting it to work was a lot of fun. I started liking OS X a lot and eventually went out and bought a Mac Book Pro. Since then I have almost completely stopped using PC's. The only PC I have is my Dell server I use for downloading etc. Nothing compares to actually owning a Mac. I recently purchased a new Mac Pro. Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8 Core) 2GB (2x1GB) NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb Two 16x SuperDrives Apple HD Cinema Display 23" I have never used a faster computer! I will be updating the RAM as soon as I have some extra cash. RAM upgrades from Apple are high priced. You might as well go out and purchase that new Mac Pro now! If you get Leopard to run flawless on your PC you will eventually make the same move I did and go out and buy a Mac. However, I did like the challenge of installing OS X on my PC. Installing Windows on a Mac is far more easier though, considering they burn you a drivers cd before you install the OS. So once you install Windows you put your drivers cd in and everything works perfectly. Hopefully you will be able to get Leopard to run perfect. Just don't throw away the idea of buying that new Mac Pro. You won't regret it!! For now enjoy all the great features of OS X Leopard. And remember nothing compares to having that new shiny Mac Pro sitting on your desk!!
