cmmcnamara
Ok so I do not know where to begin with this whole OS X on PC ordeal. I am an OS junkie and I have tried many different Linux distributions like Mandriva, various Ubuntu flavors, Fedora. I also use Windows-- right now I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and I also use to use Windows XP Professional x64 (best Windows I have ever used, might go back to it). Currently I have my hard drive partitioned with Windows's NTFS portion (70GB) in the front which is followed by my Kubuntu Linux partition and its various extensions (ext2, swap) (25GB), and I now have an unformatted segment of 20 GB which I would like to install Mac OS X on. I have never used OS X or and Mac OS for that matter before until recently when my girlfriend decided to purchase an iMac a month ago. I've played with it some and it's very nice but I haven't really been able to use it on a day to day basis and find out how I like it so I'd like to give it a try now. She has let me borrow her install CD to do this and I am wondering if that is possible or do I have to get iATKOS? What method would I use for either one? Is there anything special I have to do for a triple boot? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119421-where-to-start/ Share on other sites
EnVmyZ
Restore discs are unsupported at the moment. Retail disc will work using the boot132 method (not for noobs) I would suggest, kalyway, leo4all or iATKOS to install Leopard. I know this forum can be cumbersome at times, but read, read and then read some more. Another trick that I have found works well, using google type in your criteria ( ex. GMA950 Tearing ) but add insanelymac after it. So search "GMA950 Tearing Insanelymac". Google can search this site WAY better than the default crappy IPB seach feature. Check out the wiki for OSX86 for help with you hardware. http://wiki.osx86project.org/ And remember, when asking for help please be as detailed as possible. I notice you didn't mention proc. type, ram, video card? The more information you give, the more the insanelymac community can help you. Good luck sir. cmmcnamara
Oh ok. Just as a heads up although I am a noob to this, if there are any complicated Terminal tricks to the installation I am very comfortable with it. I have started downloading iATKOS as I have heard kalyway is much larger and has support for an AMD processor which I do not have. I will read up on leo4all as I hadn't read about or seen that yet. As for my PC's build these are the specifications: XFX 780i SLI Motherboard Intel E2180 CPU (Overclocked to 3.2 GHz) Patriot DDR2-800 CL4 RAM (4x2GB=8GB) BFG Tech NVIDIA 9800GTX Western Digital WD1200JB 120GB PATA HDD (This is the one I'm using for all the partitioning.) Maxtor 53073H4 30GB PATA HDD (This one is just for backing up). Samsung SH-203B DVD-RW Drive Gateway FHD2400 LCD Monitor (24" @ 1920x1200 Resolution) Logitech G15 (REV2) Keyboard Razer Deathadder Mouse nForce Networking Controller Realtek Onboard HDAudio I think I have covered everything. Is there any problems I may run into. Thanks again for the help.
