Hello, Welcome to my first guide here, this being on triple booting Vista, Ubuntu, and Leopard. If you have any questions please post them and i will try to answer with the best of my ability. Firstly, i did this on my Toshiba X205 notebook with 2 120gb hard drives, but any notebook or desktop should work fine.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS GUIDE IS FOR INTEL PCs ONLY! There are ways for doing this with AMD, this is not one of them.

Also note that this is a pretty advanced guide and only attempt if you have all your data backed up.

That being said:

1. Back up all information. (i went ahead and put my whole C drive on an external hard drive)

2a. Partition your C drive on your first hard drive. (we will be installing Leopard on this drive.) I split it 50/50 so 60gb partition for me.

To partition your drive: Click Start, right click on “Computer”, Click “Manage”, go to “Disk Management” on the left hand side, Right click on the drive you wish to partition and go to “shrink volume” Follow that wizard. You will end up with a black partition that says “unallocated partition” or similar. Right click and go to “new simple volume” follow the wizard and select NTFS and “quick format” give it a name like: MacintoshHD.

2b. For some of you, you might not be able to partition your C drive more than 1 or 2 gigs (and you will need at least 10 gb.) To solve this, defragment your hard drive with your favorite defragger. I like Auslogics and Perfect Disk. This might work. If not (like in my case) I had to reinstall Vista. (Not too much of a problem)

3. Do the same for your second hard drive. You can choose to partition this if you like. (I had two 60gb partitions on this. One for Ubuntu, and the other for a transfer drive or just additional space for the 3 operating systems. You can also partition this after you install Ubuntu, which might be better)

4. Once done (in my case) you should have on your first hard drive, a partition for Vista and a partition for Mac, and on your second drive, one for Ubuntu and an optional one for transfers and storage.

5. Next, go and download iATKOS v.2.0 from your favorite torrent site. It is important to get 2.0 because; I have tried (and failed) with 1.0 and 1.0R2. I will be seeding for you guys =)

6. Burn it to a DVD-R if possible with your burning software such as Nero or Imgburn. DVD-R if you can. (Borrow one from a friend if you must). Make sure to burn it on the LOWEST speed for best quality.

7. Next download Ubuntu from their website. (current release is 8.04) and burn this to a CD-R/RW.

8. Make sure you have a copy of the Vista recovery disk in case anything happens. There is great one for download on the internet, I can’t post it here so Google search it.

9. Now up to this point, you should have a PC with vista with at least three partitions (preferably 4), a DVD with iATKOS v.2.0, a CD with Ubuntu, and a Vista Recovery CD.

10. Now we install Mac.

11. Boot from the iATKOS DVD while restarting. (if you have any errors, post here or PM me) Click the arrow, then once it is done go up to “utilities” and click “disk utility” Now on the left, select the MacintoshHD partition you made earlier. Then, click on the tab “erase”. Then for the volume format, select “Mac OS extended (Journaled)” and give it a name. Then click erase, and erase again to the pop-up. Once it is done, exit the Utility.

12. Click continue. Then click agree. Select the MacintoshHD partition you just erased. Click continue and then click “customize”. You will need to select “Intel Pro 100/VE” for Ethernet, and the wireless patch is auto-installed. Under “system” install NTFS-3G. Under VGA, select one driver for your video card. I have an Nvidia GeForce 8700 GT, so I selected the respective driver under “Nvidia” Then you also need to check iatkos 2.0i main system, darwin boot loader, and kernel 9.2.2. Then click install. And click skip to the disk checker. If you burnt it well, there is no need. You might get an error saying the computer is not plugged in, even though it is. Just click ok, and make sure your laptop is plugged in if you are using a laptop. It will take from 10-30 minutes.

13. Don’t go anywhere. Just stay with your pc until it is done. After it is done you should get a notice saying “install succeeded” and a checkmark with a “restart” button. Click it. While it is restarted, make sure to take out the DVD once the system restarts. Select “MacintoshHD” from the bootloader, and boot into Leopard. The intro Mac “welcome” video should show up and watch it while Mac loads. You might not have sound, if you do then you are extremely lucky. It is okay for now. Just look on the Insanelymac forums for the appropriate drivers for your sound card. (to find your sound card, right click on computer, go to properties, and on the right select Device Manager, look for “sound” on the new window)

14. Ok, Macintosh Leopard is not installed. =) next step, Ubuntu.

15. Put in the ubuntu cd and boot from it. Click on “install Ubuntu” from the menu. From now just follow the instructions on the wizard. But make sure to select your second hard drive’s partition when selecting the install location. The last thing you would want is to install Ubuntu over Vista or Leopard. (That is not necessarily a bad thing, just not what we are aiming for here).

16. After you are done with this you should have all three Operating systems on your PC. While restarting just go into boot options and select the 2nd hard drive if you want Ubuntu (no need for a bootloader for this) or just let it load onto the default 1st hard drive to make your selection between Leopard and Vista.

15. That should be it. If you guys have any questions, post here or PM me, I will be glad to help. As for drivers for your sound, LAN/WiFi/VGA etc. that didn’t install properly, check the device manager for the name and post it here or search for it.

IN CASE ANYTHING GOES WRONG:

If anything goes deathly wrong, first check Google or the insanelymac forums on another computer to see if there is a solution for your problem, if there is no solution, or you had a bad install, do not panic, and simply boot from the Vista recovery disk and select any option such as Startup Repair, or System Restore. System Restore will almost always revert back to the time for you installed and fix your computer. From there you can reinstall the OSes if necessary.

Thank You for following my guide, if you have any questions or comments, let me know.

Thanks guys,
