Laptop Acer 5220 dvd rom drive not working under OSX

Hi i am something of a newbie however i really tried to use the search button

I read everywhere that the 5220 should be working out of the box. Now most thing do work,

i got audio and wireless lan working. Installed Leo4allv3 (vanilla), then the kalyway 10.5.3 upgrade,

then i installed the 10.5.4 through software update.

However the dvdrom drive is not working, so what i suspect is that acer also used IDE version instead of SATA dvdrom drives.

I searched and came across the OSX86tools. There i ran LSPCI. That gave me a list that said:

 

00:1f.1 IDE interface [0101]: Intel Corporation Mobile IDE Controller [8086:2850] (rev 03)

00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation Mobile SATA AHCI Controller [8086:2829] (rev 03)

 

So that does not really help me. Can someone help me out?
