Hi, I have a laptop with vista 64 on it. Today, I tried to install kalyway 10.5.1 on it using the instructional manual on the main page.

While I was logged into vista 64, I went into disk management and freed up about 15gb for leopard. However, when I got to the page with a pic of the hard drive, it said that it could not write on that disk. I really don't know about what I should do in disk utility so that nothing happens to my vista partition. In security options, the first choice was selected. Is that the right one? Also, the tutorial says that I should use MBR, but the noob guide on this site says that I should use GUID for dual boots. Which one do I use? I want to keep vista 64 perfectly functional.

u should use GUID for dual boots. in the disk utility can u see ur new 15gb partition? if u can then u need to format that and the carry on with the installation like before.

I'm not able to see the partition. The free space is not partitioned at all. Basically, while I was in vista, I went into disk management and I shrunk the size of the vista partition. The free space is unpartitioned (since that's what the guide said). Should I partition that space as well?

Does the free space for leopard have to be partitioned? Or can it be left unpartitioned?

You need to create a Primary Partition in the Unallocated space in order to set up a bootable OS X system......for a step by step guide see here...It is not necessary to format the partition as you are just setting up a primary partition that will be used later......

Or, if you wish right click on your unallocated space in the Vista Disk Management window and select "New simple volume" using "Quick format" rather than "Full format".....

Once you have booted from the OS X DVD you can go into Disk Utility and format this Primary Partition (i.e.unallocated volume) which may be unformatted or NTFS formatted depending which rooute above you have chosen to go, as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)..... :(

BTW you do not have to use GUID (GPT) partition mapping for dual-boots......you can also use MBR.......
