Richboy455
I have a new system with the following components: Asus P5N-E SLI MoBo Core 2 Duo 2.6 Ghz 2 GB DDR2 Ram 320 GB SATA Hard Drive 20x SATA DVD-RW SATA Blu-Ray XFX GeForce 8600 GTS 512 MB Linksys LNE100TX Ethernet Card I can get Kalyway installed no problem through an external cd drive, but when i am done everything works fine except for the ethernet. both the on board and the linksys card that i have dont work. how would i go about fixing this? i am so close gtting this perfect and this is the only thing holding it back. Also I am going to install it to an IDE drive to see if that will help at all since i know the sata support is not all that great. Another thing is that when i try iAtkos 4 whenever I reboot asks me to choose what to boot after i finish installing, but when i hit enter nothing happens. anyone know if an IDE drive will fix this? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118024-no-ethernet-reconized/ Share on other sites

Thanks Have you checked out the excellent threads by Mysticus C* for Intel CPUs and nForce chipset MOBOs: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87901 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109102 If you follow Mysticus C*'s guides carefully they should get you going OK...his guides and updater packages have got me up to running 10.5.4 on a 650i MOBO with a Q6600..... But if you need further clarification on each step read the install guide in my blog......other forum readers and members have posted saying that it helped them install OS X successfully.... Your on-board LAN will not work properly (onboard LAN on a MOBO may or may not work - it all depends on the MOBO specs; e.g. the onboard LAN on my Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus MOBO does not work under OS X)....hence the Netgear GA311 Gigabit LAN PCI card (RealTek 8169S chipset) card I have installed as stated in my signature and blog. See http://sourceforge.net/projects/realtekr1000/ for the R1000, which is an opensource driver for network controllers RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 and some others modification for Mac OSX. It is based on Realtek's driver for Linux but is not supported by Realtek. Also see http://www.psystar.com/realtek_r1000_driver.html Psystar have released a modded driver based on R1000 claimed by them to enhance the interrupt handling and link detection for these NICS: RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101. So get hold of a Realtek chipset based PCI Netwok Card i.e. RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 chipset card....check card specs before buying....depending on the card used it may just work out of the box with the already installed drivers in OS X... Richboy455
i think im gonna go out and get a netgear card tomorrow as well as try and install on an IDE drive (it will make it much easier to dual boot as well). hopefully i can get this working. im using opensolaris right now and while it is a nice os, i need to be able to install much more mainstream apps than what is available for linux/solaris. Richboy455
so i received my netgear card with the realtek chipset today, and after installing it and reinstalling kalyway, i can now say I officially have a working hackintosh!!!!!! I however lost audio and need the dvd to boot into the os, but im going to fiddle with that later ( i think if i go through the install process one more time i should be able to figure it out. One last question: i have 2 hard drives in my computer now, one sata and one IDE. osx boots by default off of the IDE drive, but how do i boot into my windows installation on the SATA drive? Basti756
Hi, there is a dual boot guide around here. Check the tutorials section for it. As far as I remember you have to put a file called "chain0" on your systemdrive (in Windows) and you have to edit the boot.ini. For those steps you'd have to boot of a a live cd/dvd like BartPE or Knoppix. Glad the card worked for you too..... Did you set up OS X with a MBR or GUID partition; formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)? What sound card do you have installed? What audio drivers if any did you choose when reinstalling Kalyway? Have a go at reinstalling the EFI bootloader.....OSx86Tools, or from iATKOS v2.0i as described in my blog.... Are you running XP, XP Pro, or Vista, or earlier Windows? Have you pressed F8 during machine booting just after "Enter setup...." option appears, to go into the boot menu so that you can choose which HDD to boot from, For dual booting from XP try this procedure using EasyBCD; with Vista is more straightforward Cheers haxi.... Richboy455
while i have gotten the internet to work, all is not perfect. after about 10-15 minutes it cuts out and i have to restart. is this a known issue? and if so how can it be fixed? Thanks I have not experienced a problem with it disconnecting after 10 - 15 minutes......have you (i) disabled the onboard LAN in your BIOS and (ii) installed the Psystar modified open source R1000 driver kext mentioned in my blog......R1000 driver kext.....Psystar have released this modded driver based on R1000 claimed by them to enhance the interrupt handling and link detection for these NICS: RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101. Richboy455
the AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext is not there. where can i find this? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118024-no-ethernet-reconized/#findComment-847581 Share on other sites
verdant
the AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext is not there. where can i find this? It is a stock Apple kext.......use Pacifist to extract it from the OS X install DVD .pkg files.......it should be in IONetworkingFamily.kext....... Then you will have both the R1000 kext and the AppleRTL8169Ethernet kext to enable you to install either one rather than both to see which works better for your PC system/internet setup......If you have the HDD space you could have a main OS X system loading R1000 and an identical backup OS X system except loading AppleRTL8169Ethernet........then compare network performance and stability......
