JellyUK
Hello all, I've finally gotten round to ordering the parts and building my hackintosh. I used a low end intel motherboard/processor combo, 2gb of ram and (as i tried both out) kalyway and iaktos. The only part i'm having trouble with is the video card. I used an old nvidia 7600gt 256mb, and it displays the picture fine, i can get a good resolution out of it, but i can't get Quartz extreme to work. I have tried using nvinject, adding the device ids etc to them (i've spent most of this afternoon trying various things posted on this forum), and it's so fustrating. To save on the hassle, i am wondering if anyone can recommend a video card that may work with less difficulty? Preferably one that works "out of the box", with no extra video drivers etc. Does this exist for a reasonable price? I'm not looking for gaming performance, just for QE to work, to enable animations and such. Alternatively (and believe me, i've looked for this), does anyone know of any other methods for getting nvinject to work, that will definately work with an nvidia 7600gt 256mb? Any users with the same hardware that found any tricks? For reference, most of the methods i found involved - 1) Download nvinject 2) Clean out extensions folder of old nvinject stuff (as i tried a few times) 3) Edit plist files to include the device/vendor ids in 3 different kexts 4) Fix permissions 5) Reboot (sometimes with -f) I would really appreciate any answers advice, either in the form of a recommendation of a card that installs really easily, or in some kind of user opinion on what i may be doing wrong Thanks a lot! I see a slew of 7600GTs listed- I would think it should work fine. Which version of Leopard are you using? 10.5.x? I've used methods other than NVinject to get cards working- in fact now I no longer use NVI on installs. You could try editing the EFI strings. A great tool I really recommend for this is EFI Studio, thanks to sWORDs. Run it, scroll the list to find your card, and add it to the boot.plist. You will need to delete NVinject.kext in order for it to kick in. Also, on some installs I've only gotten it to work with 10.5.3, not an initial 10.5.2 install. But it's a much bettter method all around than NVinject. Also, I've used the Apple Leopard Graphics Update on a vanilla install of 10.5.2. After a reboot, my card had full CI/QE and multi-res. Hopefully either of these can help you. So happy Again, thanks a load mate! Really appreciate the help Jelly PS. Promptly after fixing this problem, i immediately screwed up my user permissions with the sharing prefpane. I'm an idiot...Oh well, at least i know how to solve that. Tomorrow though...
