I'm going to install 10.4.9 to my current system. My computer has Window XP installed and I have only 1 HDD (1 partition only). I'm planning to create another partition. Is that advisable or I should start from scratch? Also, for instance, I start from scratch then my osx installation failed. Will the WinXP installation utiliy recognize the HFS+ partition and convert back to fat32/ntfs?

i would actually go the other way and create a different partition. That way you still have access to your windows partition. If your unnin on a 40GB hardrive and wanna go completely to mac, then maybe you should start from scratch, but only if your positive you know what your doing. If not, i highly suggest going with a seperate partition, hardware space allowing.

thanks for the replies. I haven't really installed anything yet but I have another question. If I made 2 partitions (1 for XP, 1 for Mac) and the Mac OS X installation was flawless (everything is working), can I just remove the XP partition and combine that to the Mac OS X partition?

ok. I'm going to install Uphuck's 10.4.9 tomorrow or the day after that. After reading posts, I might start from scratch (easier and safer (?) method) or if I feel experimenting, I might partition it. Anyway, I was just wondering, if I will be able to install it successfully, how can I update to 10.4.11?
