Sloblocks
Hi. First of all, I'm a total newbie to this... all my expertise is with Windows! After attempting a dual boot and totally screwing up my Vista partition, I managed to get iATKOS v4i installed on my new 1525 (core2duo). However... the only way I can get it to boot and not lock up with the spinning icon under the grey Apple is to specify -x as the Darwin boot option. I put this into the boot options file and I can boot OK, but if I'm not mistaken that pretty much kills any drivers. Hence, once booted with the -x option, I am limited to 1024x768 resolution, no network etc. So, I searched around on this forum for any clues, read that -v (verbose?) option might give me a clue to the problem, but that stops when it looks as if it's trying to run the windowing system up. I also tried to add the X3100 kext drivers using "Kext Helper", which appeared to go OK, but didn't help at all. Any ideas? Cheers, Rich. Sloblocks
OK I made a bit of progress... I started with the boot option of cpus=1 and it booted fine. X3100 video has been recognized (not sure if my kext installs before did that!). Network card... "Not connected" although it is. Firewire was recognized OK. AirPort... hah hah, yeh right. My next investigation. Screen blanks after a period and comes back fine. I have 2 cpus... it would be nice to use both, although it's running fine with one. Any ideas on firing up both cpus would be most appreciated! I use -x to boot into safe mode and got all of the other kexts/script installed and now I have full sound (though the second headphone port doesn't seem to work... who needs 2 anyways? Wifi works like a champ - got the script from another posting from tutorial that was posted... Now I'm still trying to figure out how to reliably boot up without having one of my cores disabled.... imovie would run awhole lot better with 2 cores I think. You can try the "idlehalt"="0" supposedly that has worked for some... still hangs on my 1525 core2duo 5750. I've tried disabling speedstep as well via the bios and still a no go... if you come up with anything that works please pass along.... Sloblocks
Thanks btmac, I'll try the "idlehalt"="0" and let you know. For anybody else reading this, I got my WiFi working (finally!) by following the instructions posted in http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=23684. I did try this with a previous iATKOS install and it didn't work, but I may have screwed something up before. This time I added the Broadcom 44xx drivers during install and also specified that I was on a direct ethernet connection when asked. Not sure if those actions affected anything though. Note that my WiFi adapter is listed as a "Dell Wireless" in Windows, but after going into Device Manager and looking at the driver Details, figured out that the Device ID is 4315 (it actually a Broadcom something). Also tweaked the trackpad to enable tap-clicking. Sloblocks
It worked!!! However I used a slightly different string... idlehalt=0 (no quotes) It now identifies 1 Processor, 2 CPUs so I put it into the Boot plist instead of the old cpus=1 Thanks!!! I think the only oddity I have now is shutdown... it stops OSX, but the PC does not switch off. Not a big deal though. Rich.
