So I'm about to embark on putting OS X on an older p4 computer. a 2ghz in fact (do I have to worry about chipset compatability? I think it's one of the older intel ones).

I have 27 gb free on the 80 gb harddrive, so I figure I'll carve out 20gb for OS X, possibly in the future giving OS X all 80 gb of it.

So, partition will go like this?

1. use partition magic to carve a 20 gb fat32 partition out of the 80gb NTFS partition

2. use the apple install disc to format that 20gb partition into HFS+

3. install OS X!

anything I need to know?

okay so I'm prepping for the install. Now partition magic has an option that says "install another OS"

The options are windows from 98 on, and Linux.

So, would this work?

1. select "install another OS" in Partition Magic

2. tell it to create a partition for Linux.

3. create partition (btw, out of 27 gb free, it says that the max size of the partition is 18 gb... is that on purpose?)

4. reboot, access bios telling it to boot off of dvd-rom, install OS X from DVD rom onto new partition.

make sure its a primary partition :graduated: Also no need to format to fat32... u can leave it unformatted

i have dual boot with windows. i tried to use a primary partition initially for OSX, but when i format it into a MAC OSX extended(journaled) partition, it turned into a non-primary drive....i had to use acronis to make it a primary again... :( i dont know why...
