AustinMac
Greetings! I took the plunge this weekend to build my first Hackintosh! I'm running into a few problems, so I'm hoping the knowledgeable members here can help me out. First, a little background: I'm an experienced PC and Mac user, custom building my own PCs for many years. The only complete PC I ever bought new (well, besides laptops) was a Gateway 386-33DX many years ago. I started using Macs full-time in 2002 and haven't looked back. I own several modern Macs, including two Mac Minis, a Macbook, and an aluminum iMac. My plans are to replace my iMac with this Hackintosh, as it's easier for me to upgrade the hardware, has many internal drive bays, and I can use my own monitors with it (among other reasons). I'd love to buy a Mac Pro, but that's just too expensive right now. So here's the hardware I'm using: - Asus P5E-VM HDMI Motherboard - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 CPU - 4GB Patriot PC6400 DDR RAM - PNY GeForce 8800GT 512MB - Various SATA II hard drives - Coolermaster Mystique case - Antec Earthwatts 650W PS - Linksys WMP300N PCI wireless N card I first installed Kalyway 10.5.2 and after much trial and error, got it to install without problems. All my hardware appears to work in 10.5.2, with exception of the onboard Atheros LAN, which does not have OS X drivers. I bought the Linksys WMP300N knowing it was supported, and had no problems getting on my wireless net. Well, I wanted to be current and upgrade to 10.5.4. Yesterday I installed Mysticus C's 10.5.3 update, which worked well except I lost my sound and wireless. I downloaded the 10.5.4 update from Apple on another machine, copied it to my Hackintosh and then successfully updated it to 10.5.4. Still no sound or wireless (no surprises there). I spent many hours yesterday trying to get the wireless to work. It's a Broadcom 4329 PCI board, and I tried everything in this thread to get it to work: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=51725 It's driving me nuts, as it sure looks like I have the AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext setup properly with my device ID. However, the NetworkInterfaces.plist file (in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration) only shows a Firewire network connection--the wireless is not listed in there at all. Haven't tried tackling the sound yet, but as that was working before I don't expect to have problems getting it working again. The machine has been rock solid stable so far--the only anomaly I've noticed so far is sometimes when the machine boots the USB mouse and keyboard do not work (not sure if other USB devices would be affected, as these are the only two USB devices I've tried so far). Would be nice if there's a fix for this as well. Any advice on the wireless would be hugely appreciated! Thanks!!
