So I downloaded Kalyway 10.5.2 Leopard. The install went smooth.

Normal hardware worked out of the box.

Audio of course did not.

After several hours of looking through this forum and various others, I finally managed to get audio working on my Dell M1530.

I am sure this will work for others if you try.

Download AppleHDA Patcher 1.16

Use the attached dump file

After the patcher repairs permissions you will most likely have audio before rebooting. I know I did.

*The only thing I can think of is since this version forces the permission repair that may be what makes it work. v1.20 does not force a permission repair.

My sound card still does not show up in System Profiler

*Does anyone know how to fix this? Is it possible?

The media volume buttons function which is extremely nice

I also installed the Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo Update after this and it still works great.

Tutorials (Genius Bar) forum has a lot of guides, you could save "hours" visiting it.

Anyway, in the guide I made that is an old method, there is a new already patched kext that let you select other outputs, but even more last week Devilhood patched that kext and now Mute works also.

And if you want an automated installer sonotone made one for Dell laptops.

Question

Would it be best to replace the original kext for audio before changing it or can I just install the patched kext over it without issue?

From your guide which I have read a couple times I am guessing there is still no fix for the Marvell onboard NICs ?? Correct me if I am wrong on this though please!!

Bluetooth is working but for some reason I cannot pair a bluetooth mouse with OS X.

Also, audio is working, but System Profiler says no built in audio. This is normal also?

Update:

I used the post installer you mentioned. Now I have power options. I can see my battery meter in the top bar. The ACPIPlatform kext says it did not install correctly. I repaired permissons after installing but it still comes up with the same error. Any ideas??

Everything else seems to be working great. Of course my wired LAN still does not work but I rather use wireless anyway.

I also reinstall the OS entirely and went back to the 10.5.2 kernel. After installing the Kalyway 10.5.3 update I lost QE/CI.

This worked for me on my Dell XPS M1530. I had previously had sound on occasion using the Dell Laptop Post Installer, but it didn't always work.

I was disappointed that it didn't work right away, had to reboot, so didn't think it was going to work, but it did!

I've been using this for a couple of days and although I still can't get a restart out of the laptop, I get sound every boot now.
