Hi,

I just installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on these specs:

Intel Q6600

nForce 680i SLI

GeForce 8800GTS 512MB

320GB SATA

It detects SATA and ATA drives beatifully!, but everything else seems to be somewhat limited or missing...

Here's a list of the important stuff I need to get to work:

- LAN (ethernet)

- Audio

- GFX-driver (at the moment the resolution is limited to 1024x768 and the VRAM to 32MB)

Here's a list of the less important stuff I need to get to work:

- It doesn't detect the name of the Q6600, but only it's speed and the fact that it has 4 cores.

- Firewire

- USB sometimes causes kernel panics, or doesn't work at all.

- "System Profiler" only detects 'NETWORK' and 'SOFTWARE' for some reason.

- Sometimes the SATA-optical drive doesn't detect the disks within it.

Hope someone is able to help!

Look at my Kalyway 10.5.2 install guide in my blog.....it should help.... :) as well as this thread by Mysticus C*......

I have now managed to get System Profiler working, as well as the name of my CPU.

Audio and Ethernet are my biggest concerns, since I have already tried several different extensions to add audio, without luck...

Your on-board LAN will not work properly (onboard LAN on a MOBO may or may not work - it all depends on the MOBO specs; e.g. the onboard LAN on my Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus MOBO does not work under OS X)....hence the Netgear GA311 Gigabit LAN PCI card (RealTek 8169S chipset) card I have installed as stated in my signature and blog.

See http://sourceforge.net/projects/realtekr1000/ for the R1000, which is an opensource driver for network controllers RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 and some others modification for Mac OSX. It is based on Realtek's driver for Linux but is not supported by Realtek.

Also see http://www.psystar.com/realtek_r1000_driver.html

Psystar have released a modded driver based on R1000 claimed by them to enhance

the interrupt handling and link detection for these NICS: RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101.

So get hold of a Realtek chipset based PCI Netwok Card i.e. RTL8168, RTL8111, RTL8169, RTL8101 chipset card....check card specs before buying....depending on the card used it may just work out of the box with the already installed drivers in OS X... :P

I have today tried many different things, but the only thing I've found out, is that I can only use USB without rebooting first, if I disable LAN in the BIOS. Strange but true...

Network and Audio is still not working (feels like I tried everything...)

network on nforce chipset esp on 680 series, is a dream for the moment... there is a driver but causes much more bads and than goods, so stay away from on board lan... get yourself a lan i listed on the post two of this topic... also as you can see, this is nforce topic... so you may find most of your answers by simply reading through w/o being bored... if you can managed to read all the pages, it will give two years worth of knowledge :(...

it may/may not have all the answers but it will give you an idea about what you are dealing with...

i highly suggest reading post 1 and 2!!! but recommend reading all... sometimes answers found in one day sometimes months...

OK,

I have been reading many of the iatkos threads from way back in 2006 :P

I guess I just thought everything had been solved by now...

The solution for me will probably be to just settle with the ability to transcode video with my Q6600 using Visualhub, since that was the main reason I installed OS X in the first place. At least the system is stable, and the graphics are functioning :P

Thanks anyway :D (also to you haxi)

+ you can get a pci or usb wifi card to get your network working... it just the on board one that is trouble...

+ also 4 gb ram is another trouble... due to incompatible driver (thanx to medevil at least there is a driver that works for nforce even for only 32 bit) got 4gb + ram? u have to get rid of extras over 2 gb of it... u can have stable system with 2 gb ram...

+ usb not mounting issue is not related to chipset, rather kernel/system.kext version mis-match it happens on all systems if u dont have the correct versions in place...

+ vga drivers for your gfx card should work just fine... using gfx strings or nvinject or nvkush...

+ there are audio drivers for nforce chipsets around as well, latest ones even make almost evertg work...

==================================

so there is big trouble i know of that would keep you do anything you wanna do?

or is there?

- I actually already have 4GB up and running - doesn't seem to be a problem.

- The USB issue was sort of solved by an old post with a terminal command to clear som cache, I just have to run it everytime. (I'm sure you know of it)

- Audio i can't get to work. Tried just about everything... (icon shows up, but nothing comes out of the speakers)

btw, I just tried installing the 10.5.3 combo update from Kalyway, but it crashed halfway through. I managed to get it booted up in safe mode, and to install the vanilla kernel, but it still didn't work normally. I then tried the other kernel (think the name was 'gidbin' or something like that), and now it crashes randomly. Plus it can only get past the boot if I write 'update -v' everytime I boot :S

I think I will reinstall it all again, and settle with 10.5.2 :thumbsup_anim:

ok, i m not gonna write to your topic anymore, this is my last post... due to your inability to understand what i am saying...

you dont seem to understand some stuff about what you are doing... i will remind you one last time, and it is up to you to understand this time or not....

+ vanilla kernel is for certain intel chipsets! nforce will not run vanilla kernel! wanna try to make it work? go ahead...

+ 4gb issue will hunt you down when you try to work on large files that are bigger than 1 gb... either using files that are large. or using programs that needs large memory allocation. this is due to 64 bit mode not working in the nforce ata drivers... you think your system working? not a problem? your either unique or you dont understand what is being said... just wait and see when you are gonna hit the wall...

+ usb issue is also another thing you dont seem to understand... u dont need anything to be cleaned every time... all you need is the correct kernel/system.kext version... it will work every time w/o doing anything...

+ audio can work, like i said, it is your inability to understand what you are reading and doing at the moment... you have to read correctly what is said to you...

+ 10.5.3 update works fine on nforce chipset, have you tried the 1.4b update that I made? it seems you didnt... you got to read carefully and you have to read correct stuff...

you still have a lot to read and learn... instead of claiming you got things working when you dont even understand what is working and what is not, just listen to what is being said!

i suggest you to read around more and try to understand before you make claims that are things working or not... when you dont understand the cause of an issue, you cant say you solved it... all your questions in fact answered in my topic but you are failing to read and understand it carefully, correctly... I dont like to go between individual topics for individual's problems when there are answers in general topics... wanna learn more, go to my topic and read there, and post questions in that topic...

wow! - I have heard of people with bad tempers, but this is just ridiculus?

I don't want your help anymore, child.

i dont argue with people anymore with only one day knowledge and experience... all i m suggesting you to read around before you create another topic, because people in your same shoes keep creating topics that are polluting the forums, all the time... read my previous post and try to understand it... i dont give a damn about your immature behavior, all i said to you was your problems are answered already in appropriate places and even given addresses, if you are not smart enough to understand given directions and suggestions and take them as bad tempers good luck to you in your quest...
