Alex HQuest
Hi all. Some days ago I've tried to update my Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.4. Got Kalyway 10.5.3 Update for SSE3-only, and installed on my SSE-2 machine. After 1st restart, noticed some process got hung. Booted with -s, figured out post-installation script wasn't running fully: /usr/libexec/oah/translate was getting stuck. So, I edited post-install script to take out this translate command, manually ran it, moved away RunAtStartup folder (or something like that), sync, unmounted / and booted. Guess what? It worked! Almost. I got no network. So, looking at syslogs I noticed it was apparently an issue with my network driver AppleIntel8254XEthernet. Got old IONetworkingFamily.kext from 10.5.2 and whoa, it worked! Almost, again. Although I was able to update to 10.5.4 using original, official Apple 10.5.4 Update (and with an Inactive ethernet...), I also used modbin's 9.4 kernel and System.kext. But my network stills a mystery to me. It is marked as Inactive -- LLC appears to be not functional, as Network Preferences says "The cable for Ethernet is not plugged in" --, but I am writing this on my Hack using such inactive network!!! Weird than this, it only works with DHCP. Can't set manual address, nor use DHCP with Manual address. If I do this, I have no networking at all, but setting as DHCP, here I am posting on boards Now, besides this post maybe shedding a light to anyone with Ethernet issues after 10.5.3 (try DHCP), it stills left me with a question: Why the heck is my network card "inactive"? Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/115395-10531054-ethernet-cable-unplugged-but-it-works/ Share on other sites
