ericthirteen
Hi. This is my first post and an official "Hello" to all on the forum. I've been using Mac for some time now. An iMac G5, a Powerbook and a Dual Processor PowerMac G5. I also own a PC that I built in 2003 (specs later...). On impulse, I decided to try 10.4.4 w/ 10.4.5 update. Anyway, long story short, it installed without a hitch and the PC is running OSX 10.4.5 fine so far. Here's the system info... Pentium 4 2.4 GHz 533 MHz System Bus 512 KB L2-Cache Socket 478 Abit BE7-Raid 533 FSB Intel 845PE Chipset HighPoint HPT372 RAID controller (not recognized) Realtek Audio USB 2.0 Realtek Ethernet Up to 2 GB of PC2700/2100/1600 1 x 80 GB Maxtor ata133 drive 1024 MB DDR 333 RAM PNY Verto GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 128 MB Dual VGA SIIG ATA133 card (not recognized) Apple 4x DVD-R drive from G5 (not sure of the brand/model) Logitech wireless keyboard into PS/2 Microsoft wireless USB mouse. Anyway, it seems to run ok. My harddrive score in XBench is a bit slower than I hoped... it says... Sequential 63.22 Uncached Write 39.66 24.35 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 67.33 38.09 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 105.29 30.81 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 72.95 36.67 MB/sec [256K blocks] Random 26.34 Uncached Write 8.61 0.91 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 66.88 21.41 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 87.65 0.62 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 107.33 19.92 MB/sec [256K blocks] That just doesn't seem correct for ata133 drives/controller. So, this is all new to me. I used to know a lot about my PCs until I started using Macs... then I kind of forgot everything. I'd like to get it to run top shape... but I am not sure where to begin. I've read some of the FAQs in the Wiki page... it's just a bit above my head... talking about this patch and that patch. My biggest concern is to get the PC to run at optimum speed (who doesn't, right?), and maybe if possible, get some additional ata ports operational. I have a SIIG ATA133 card, and two additional Highpoint portsd on the motherboard. Is there a way to get any to work? I really want to just add one more drive to the system. Just not sure where to begin. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11528-new-osx86-user-success-running-on-pc-but-need-advise/ Share on other sites
macgirl
AFAIK there are no drivers for those right now. I know that HighPoint makess products/drivers for Mac, but I did not see Universal ones yet. check http://www.highpoint-tech.com/ though Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11528-new-osx86-user-success-running-on-pc-but-need-advise/#findComment-72397 Share on other sites

Unfortunetly HPT doesn't make ata133 drivers for the Mac... just for the newer stuff. Thank again. Guest BuildSmart
Look at the Apple ATA source and you can make it work with little trouble.
