Hi guys! I really need some help please!, I was trying to install Kallyway 10.5.2 on my Dell Inspiron 6400/ E1505, after everything install I got stuck at teh white screen with the apple and then the pc reboots by itself and again and again. Nothingi happens if I press F8 at startup to try the commands, -v -x -y cpu=1, so the only way I can use my laptop again is to repair vista with the vista dvd, then inside vista I tried to use Easy BCD to add Ubuntu and OSX, once again no go :P , Vista and ubuntu boot ok, but I get "chain booting error" for osx. I've been trying to install Leopard 4 times already, same results after reboot from installation. Please help with this, I'm dying to try leopard.

My Specs:

Dell E1505

Intel core 2 duo T7200 2.0ghz

2g of ram

120gb WD hd

Ati radeon X1400

Thanks in advance for your help :)

I couldn't get the 10.5.2 to load at all when I first tried it. But then i got the hint to start up the install DVD with F8 option and then the -x option. After install is done, use "update -v". Then it will update the boot files and restart - then you should be able to boot normally (without the update -v)

If you have another working copy of Leopard (on an external USB drive?) then you can use osx68 Tools utility to install Chameleon EFI bootloader. I used to use EasyBCD, which used the Vista Bootloader, but I've had much more success with Chameleon on my Vista/Mac internal drive. I've had the best success with an install on a mac-only usb external drive.

If you can't use osx86, then try loading Chameleon onto your mac partition directly - do a search for just that or maybe visit the Chameleon site: do a google search for Chameleon bootloader

One other option - try the iAtkos v1.0r2 install. It's a smaller download but worked reasonably well for me.

Man thanks for the info, yesterday Itried again from scratch, I backup all my documents, wipe my hard drive and create 4 partitions, c: for vista, d: my documents and two more for ubuntu and osx, all of them primary. First I installed vista, then I tried Iatkos v1.0, I follow this guide http://www.freewebs.com/bass-2k7/installingiatkosv10i.htm with no luck because for some reason I can't install the Darwin bootloader after selecting the right partition, after installed I restarted and nothing happened, just Vista start normally. Then I tried with kalyway 10.5.2, I choose some options from the customize installation, restart and now I can see the Darwin bootloader then the white screen with the apple and the cursor loading, after that all the screen was filled with white and black lines and after that just a black screen.... :) I'm sooo frustrated!!! and when I tried to boot in to vista I got an error, I tried to repair it with the vista dvd and didn't work... so I had to reinstall my vista again...

So please could someone help me with this??? what I'm doing wrong??? I'm clueless now

My best advice is to try and get Leopard working on an external USB drive first before you try any multi-boot setups. You only need about 6-8 gigs to get a system up and running, so you might even be able to use a flash drive or iPod if you have one big enough.

When you install Leopard, all of the necessary boot files should be installed, but once you get into multi-boot, you introduce a whole new series of problems.

You might want to try installing the Chameleon EFI bootloader, although it may not be compatible with AMD chips or Ubuntu. Do a google search for chameleon bootloader and you should be able to find their site and some install instructions. That's what I use and it works great for my Leopard/Vista dual boot.

One other idea, if you don't have a USB drive you can use...

Check out this link for a different bootloader - note, it only works with intel chips:

One final idea is to start booting from the DVD, but don't hit any keys at all when the Darwin prompt comes up. Sometimes that works - after the bootloader has loaded from the DVD it will find your Leopard partition and start it up, or at least give the option to select it for start-up. I found this out by accident one day when I was having trouble with my install not booting. I went to start up from DVD but got distracted. Simply by hitting nothing, my leopard install started up, thanks to the darwin boot files .

Thankyou very much for your help Mac Maestro! I will give a try again this weekend following your advice, I also download kalyway 10.5.1 I read that is one of the ease ones to install, so I will give it a shot!.

I have an external HD do you think that will do for the installation?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have the MAC partition too far down the chain. I tried about the same partition structure originally and failed due to the fact that the partition was past the bootable sector of the hard drive. I would recommend making your:

windows partition - partition #1

osx - partition #2

any additional partitions you want after that

After you install OSX it will make your windows partition unbootable as you have discoved. You need to use a program like GParted to make your windows partition bootable again. Also, you need to modify the boot file in Vista to do a dual boot, so that you can choose between Vista and OSX. Not sure if you did this or not - didn't sound like you did Here are some good general tutorials for Kalyway 10.5.2. Hope this helps.
