caioiac
Hi guys, this is the second time i try out installing Mac OS X leopard on a laptop the first time i was successful with a Toshiba satellite P200-RT2 using iAtkos now on the second time, I'm trying to install in a HP Pavilion dv6000, core 2 duo, with the same iAtkos disc but this time i can't boot from the hdd, it always give me "chain booting error", I can't find what is actually wrong. I followed every step on this tutorial http://inihilist.wordpress.com/2008/04/05/...and-fool-proof/ I think the problem is with Darwin boot but I'm not sure so i took a picture of the screen help please thanks all Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114368-chain-booting-error/ Share on other sites
BigPimpin
/dev/disk0s2 looks OK but then the error messages mention "s2", which means nothing. They should refer to "disk0". Not sure why it wants to unmount s2, which doesn't exist. Where is the chain booting error? I don't see it there. caioiac
chain booting error appears when i try to boot Mac OS it only shows this line "Chain booting error" and stops on it, and then i got to shut my laptop off and turn it on again im using a dual boot setting, so i can choose between windows vista and Mac OS i have another question. i remember from the first time (the tutorial was a little different, but it was on the same site, the author just changed some stuff), that on mac partitions numbers would be something like x+1, i am not sure, but i think i tried it too. what would be the number of the Mac partition on Mac? i installed on the second partition (17gb) and which partition should i flag? CaroonM80
Sorry to hear that you're having trouble. I work for M80, a social media company in LA. We are working with Toshiba and they happen to sponsor a web site where you can ask independent laptop experts, like Joel Johnson of Boing Boing, about any problem for any brand of computer. Feel free to check it out at laptopexperts.federatedmedia.net. I hope this info helps! mac_maestro
Hi guys, this is the second time i try out installing Mac OS X leopard on a laptopthe first time i was successful with a Toshiba satellite P200-RT2 using iAtkos now on the second time, I'm trying to install in a HP Pavilion dv6000, core 2 duo, with the same iAtkos discbut this time i can't boot from the hdd, it always give me "chain booting error", I can't find what is actually wrong.I followed every step on this tutorial http://inihilist.wordpress.com/2008/04/05/...and-fool-proof/I think the problem is with Darwin boot but I'm not sureso i took a picture of the screenhelp pleasethanks allok try this.First, set BIOS to boot from CD, but don't press any keys when you see the countdown. If all goes well, you should then go to the mac partition and it will boot. If so, go to next paragraph. If not, you need to set your mac partition as active and try again. (you can do this thru vista, using Terminal commands and diskpart, or with Terminal in the mac os startup disk using fdisk.)Once you get you mac partition running, download osx86 tools from here:http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=104754Then open it, click on Install EFI/Run fdisk..Then click on reinstall source files. Then install the bootloader - you have 4 choices, I prefer Chameleon.Pick the correct disk number and partition, and you're set. When you restart, you should get a darwin bootloader screen. hit any key during startup and you should get a choice of your Leopard partition or your windows partition (it will probably have a weird name, mine is called SQ004680V03).I used to use easyBCD through the Vista bootloader but I had lots of problems doing it that way. Since using chameleon I haven't had a single problem. And osx86 tools can help do a bunch of other good things for your hack. Also, i highly recommend an external USB drive with 2 partitions - one to back up your hack install (I use Hatchery_H1 to clone it and osx86 tools to "bless" it with chameleon) and one partition to try out updates and new installs.Feel free to PM me if you have questions.Best of luckchain booting error appears when i try to boot Mac OS it only shows this line "Chain booting error" and stops on it, and then i got to shut my laptop off and turn it on againim using a dual boot setting, so i can choose between windows vista and Mac OSi have another question.i remember from the first time (the tutorial was a little different, but it was on the same site, the author just changed some stuff), that on mac partitions numbers would be something like x+1, i am not sure, but i think i tried it too.what would be the number of the Mac partition on Mac?i installed on the second partition (17gb)and which partition should i flag?Ok I see what you're doing.diskpart list disk select disk 0 list part select part 2 active exit That will make the 17 gig partition active ("blessed"). If it won't start up correctly, make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD first, and use the technique of leaving the install disk in (but don't touch any keys) and it should go straight to your mac partition and boot. Then use osx86 tools to install chameleon. Then you shouldn't need the install disk any more. caioiac
I think I have another problem now I think that if I set my MAC partition active, Windows won't boot. My laptop is an HP, so it has two partitions already set, Vista and HP recovery, and I had to set HP recovery active to boot while MAC was the active one, it showed up a screen saying "Operating system missing" or something like that anyone knows a solution for that? sorry if its confusing, I don't know if my English is that good Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114368-chain-booting-error/#findComment-832512 Share on other sites
MGJulius
If you make os x your bootable partition vista will go crazy and wont boot, but there is a fix Make sure your vista partition is the active partition and boot into the hp recovery partition. Click repair installation and it should fix it. If that doesnt work your gonna need a vista install disc Make sure vista is the active again and boot the cd and click "repair installation" If the repair is successful switch the partition back to leopard and it should all work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114368-chain-booting-error/#findComment-832635 Share on other sites

Click on that and it should show you a window with your vista that's already installed, and tell it to repair. If you don't see a vista system listed, then you have to make the Vista partition active first using diskpart (see my previous post). Once you have vista up and running again, try using easyBCD to manage the boot process - it will load first and ask you if you want to load Vista or Leopard (or any other installs you have). Best of luck. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114368-chain-booting-error/#findComment-833210 Share on other sites
