Finally i successfully have 10.4.5 on my 5150, but for some reason it doesnt see my wireless. In the past i know someone with my exact pc and card it worked, but every time osx loads it says cannot load appleairport2.kext. When i tried installing a patched kext, I got this

172:~ brian$ sudo kextload -t /system/library/extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext

kextload: extension /system/library/extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext appears to be valid

10AirPortPCI is not compatible with its superclass, 20IOEthernetController superclass changed?

kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /system/library/extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext

load failed for extension /system/library/extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext

(run kextload with -t for diagnostic output)

172:~ brian$

Can anyone tell me anything I can do?!

Thanks,

Brian

first find out what kind of network card you have, and its device id. if you're using windows, download 'system information viewer' (SIV). click on the devices tab and find your wireless card listed. you'll see a string of letters and numbers - the first 2 parts (vendor-dev) are what you need. also post what type of card it is to make it easier for people to give advice.

looks like a broadcom card..

check to be sure you have this extension:

/System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext

If so, go to ... /Contents/Info.plist and open it up in a text editor. the formatting only shows up right under os x, but you can do it in windows if you have to. you should see a few lines like this:

<string>pci14e4,4312

check to see if one is

<string>pci14e4,4320 <-- (your device id)

if so, you should already have the extension loaded.

if not, add the line or change one of the others to look like that, and do these in terminal:

chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions

chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions

rm /System/Library/Extensions.*

reboot

if it was already there, or you just did that, go into system prefs. and open up network and it should detect the card. go into airport and make your settings look good and you should be in business. if not, something else is the problem, but your card should be supported.

Ok, i did all that and it didnt work.

I dont think OSX even sees it because its not under pci under about this apple.

Is there any way i can get it to see it?

Do I need to put in a device ID for my pcicard controller?

Thanks for the help so far
