So now I've got Kalyway 10.5.3 up on my main rig as perfectly installed as possible and I'm loving it, so I decided I want to give a little OS X love to my laptop as well. Naturally I tried using the Kalyway 10.5.2 install DVD that I already had handy but it wouldn't even get to the install dialogue, freezing on a blue screen. Then I tried an iATKOS 2.0 install disc, same problem. Read around a bit and discovered that the JAS 10.4.8 install disc helps some people bypass this problem, and indeed, I was able to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 to my laptop on the laptop screen itself.

However, now that it's installed, booting the system up with the hard drive ALSO seems to lead to a freeze on a light blue screen, the one just before your desktop and dock pop up. The system profiler doesn't detect my native laptop screen but it will detect my Samsung 225BW when attached via VGA, details here:

The OS otherwise works great, but it will only boot to the external LCD.

Is there anything I can do to make OS X recognize my native laptop screen?

O.K. more research has revealed a fix. I took a paper clip, bent it, and put it in pin 6 and pin 12 on the VGA out female connector on my laptop. Totally fixed the problem.

I also just noticed that I neglected to mention which laptop I'm running. Well, this is an ASUS Z71A. PM me with any questions regarding this topic or wireless on the Z71A (works for me).
