internet speed issue

i just installed 10.4.3 on my toshiba laptop and for the most part the installation was a breeze. anyways my question is why is internet browsing and download speeds so incredibly slow if im not connected directly to my cable modem (ex. my netgear router) in OS X???? i dont have this problems with windows.

IPv6 is a known speed sucker on OS X.

 

you might try going to System Preferences, Network, Configure, Configure IPv6, and change it from Automatic, to OFF.

 

that sped up my network browsing to windows speeds. and no doubt it works for internet as well.

i already turned it off, seems to help a little bit, but it's still a lot slower

it was so long ago, but i think there is something else you can do as well. i remember it being really slow, but can't remember what else i did to fix it. google.

well after putting in my own dns addresses, instead of the computer doing it automatically, im back to normal FAST broadband speeds. by the way i used 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.3, if anyone needs a boost
