mtrog007
I am booting mac os and windows xp (used to be, because I'm currently trying to upgrade it to vista) I used devilhood's guide to fix the problem, but here's what's happening: I have Mac and windows on the same hard drive (internal), and wanted to upgrade windows xp (which I had had). I upgraded it to windows ultimate, and I of course get the HFS+ partition error message. So I boot up with my mac install disk (kalyway) and go to terminal and type the commands: fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0flag 1 update write y quit reboot That was per devilhood's guide shown here. Now it reboots fine, and goes into my regular mac os with ease. I am told to go back into terminal and more or less do this: sudo -s*password* fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 flag 2 quit reboot And I reboot. Now here's my problem. My computer boots back up, but when I get to the boot up menu, I only have the choice of my mac os. What I don't get is I installed vista at the very beginning of this. This is what broke my start up (I'm thinking the bootloader). How come it can't find my windows vista part of my hard drive? I selected my mac partition and booted up from there, which worked perfectly, just as before. I go into disk utility, and click on what is supposed to be my vista partition, and it tells me that it is in ntfs format (which is good, because that is what it's supposed to be, right?), but it tells me it's not mounted. I'm thinking, duhh, that's why it can't see it. So I click on that partition to mount it and it tells me it can't mount it and I should use disk repair (which I can't, nothing is even showing up on the partition details). Can anyone help me? I think it's more or less a simple fix, but I just can't figure it out. I should be using the repair feature on my vista install disc, but I tried doing that last time (I've attempted this whole shpeel about 5 times), and it couldn't even find the actual os to repair (even though I had just installed vista and been at the desktop before booting up with the mac install disc). Any help appreciated. Thanks. PS - I can't even access my vista partition, just to clear up some information. EDIT: I forgot, I do have a Gparted Live CD, maybe I need to set the partition as not hidden (if it is)? stephensaw
I faced this few times. Try to boot into Vista installation DVD, then under repair, launch the command prompt thing, then follow these steps: 1. type diskpart to use disk management tools 2. type list disk to show physical hdd drive 3. type select disk x where x is the number of your drive, the first drive should be 0 4. type list partition to list the partition available on the selected drive 5. type select partition x where x is the number of the partition of the selected disk 6. type active to set the partition as active 7. reboot and should be able to go into Vista. 8. Inside Vista , download EasyBCD and use it to create a MacOSX86 boot option, just few clicks Hope it helps.
