Reznik Akime
I'm trying to install Kalyway 10.5.2 on an Dell Dimension 3000 with the Intel 865 chipset, onboard video. Processor I believe supports SSE3, but I don't think that would matter this early in the installer. If I didn't know any better, I would say it's in a two bit color mode. I tried safe mode with the same result. Anything I'm overlooking? gazzanova
have you tried using a different video driver, i think theres several intel drivers to choose from on the kalway dvd Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/113163-gray-screen-in-kalyway-installer/#findComment-800926 Share on other sites
Reznik Akime
How would I go about selecting these drivers? This is loading up straight from the install DVD. Nothing has been written to the hard drive yet. I can't see anything to do so. gazzanova
when you get to the 2nd screen from the pics you post, there is an button at the bottom, you can choose which drivers to install, make sure you have the cpus=1 box ticked otherwise it may hang at boot up once you have it installed Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/113163-gray-screen-in-kalyway-installer/#findComment-800942 Share on other sites

nintenno
I had a 3000 for a while. And i had the same issue. Try changing the graphics settings in your bios. That's what did it for me. When you install, you will need to NOT select vanilla kernel, and another issue is that it doesn't support efi. The only release that worked for me was iatkos 1.0i. Also, you will need another graphics card since the 865 is not supported by leopard. You will not get qe, so that might be an issue. But have fun! Reznik Akime
What exactly is QE and why is that an issue? All this is going to be used for is a file server for other macs. Nothing else, really. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/113163-gray-screen-in-kalyway-installer/#findComment-800970 Share on other sites
nintenno
Ok. Well qe makes stuff like front row and QuickTime work. Well, since its going to be a file server, it won't matter. I think its a video setting in the bios that i changed. Well, just expirement! Good luck! Reznik Akime
Yep, it was the frame buffer settings for the video. Had to change it from 1mb to 8mb and it works like a top now. Thanks!
