Greetings all.

As this site has saved me countless headaches in setting up my OSX86 machine, I wanted to turn to the community here to see if there was a resolution to the issues I'm now experiencing.

My specs for the PC I have running are as follows:

Zephyroth 10.5.2 with 9.2. Kernel

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe

AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 Processor, 2.8Mhz

4 GB Corsair Memory

250 GB SATA

Zephyroth is installed on a 40gb partition after the Vista partition (60 gb) on the drive. The rest of the drive is free space to partition at will.

NVidia 7900 GTX

LITEON DVD Combo drive

I'm attemping to use the AMD Updater 0.5 beta that's out for the Zephyroth version of OSX86.

In downloading the list of patches, I'm finding that I can install everything, but the 10.5.3 patch. The patch seems to install, but then locks up during the extraction of MacOSXUpd10.5.3.pkg. I've tried the install several times and it always crashed / kernel panics at this point.

I've also tried the standard built-in updater with OSX. It downloads fine, but always locks up around 41% rendering the installation corrupt and I have to re-install the OS.

Now, after checking several sites on lock-ups, kernel panics, etc. I've attempted to resolve the situation myself by selecting different options during the installation for drivers, no drivers, etc. With Zephyroth, I did select the 256mb drivers for Video, All drivers for Network, AC97 drivers for sound, and Nforce drivers for Chipset.

Right now, I have a dual-boot with Microsoft Vista Ultimate and that's working fine. At this point, I'm pretty sure that the issue is something with my hardware. However, in doing research here and on Google, my OSX install never reports a panic.log file in Library/Logs for me to check and find out what the issue is.

Through my reading, I did find out that the OSX installs may have an issue with the SSE2 processors. However, I've tried the vanilla kernels with the different installs and the Speedstep kernel, neither of which resolves the issue.

At this point, I may be looking at upgrading my processor to see if that resolves it. However, I'm pretty sure that most folks out there have gotten everything working on the SSE2 proc. Also, I may need to downgrade to 10.4 or Tiger as it may be the only one that supports my hardware. The machine is a bit old, but after checking the HCLs and what-not, figure it should work just fine.

I'm definitely not ready to throw in the towel and would appreciate any assistance or tips that the folks out there may have for me. If you need more information in relation to the build, my PC, etc, I'm more than happy to nix my current install to get you the step-by-step selections I did for the installation.

Any questions, let me know. Thank you!

Bumping to see if anyone has a resolution for us on this. Thank you!

For those with AMD, here's what worked for me;

- Make sure you have modbin 9.4.0 kernel / system.kext

- Make sure your downloads folder is empty - Zephyroth's ASU will attempt to patch everything in your downloads folder, and can hang trying to do it. Clean out your downloads first, then

- Use Zephyroth ASU updater, and make sure to choose "Modify Only" checkbox. This downloads and patches updates, and then leaves it in your downloads folder for you to apply yourself.

- Wait and see if the update gets downloaded and patched - you will see a new folder in your downloads folder with the update inside

- Apply the update (don't reboot yet!)

- Install the 9.4.0 kernal AND system.kext (use OSX86Tools if you don't know how to do this through Terminal)

- Reboot and pray

No problems for me going from Leo4all fresh install of 10.5.2 straight to 10.5.4...

If you don't install the kernel and system.kext, you'll get a panic on boot.

Where I can find a kernel and system.kext for 10.5.4 to work on an amd sse2. I have installed leo4allv3 with kernel 9.2.0 from netkas (for amd sse2 cpu's).

Thanks!
