Hi, I am newbie on hacintosh stuff. Nevertheless, I survive the kaliway 10.5.1 installation for my Dell Inspiron 530 desktop with Core 2 Quad CPU, dual boot using bcdedit between Vista and Kaliway. Vista remains in its original sata drive, and I added a new sata drive which was partitioned into 2 volumes with MBR. The kaliway is installed in the first partition of the new sata drive.

The Vista works fine after installation. When boot into the Kaliway, the screen got frozen after displaying something like "this computer need to be poweroff, ...", instructing to hold onto the power button to shut it down.

Anybody here having the same issue? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

most probably you selected and installed a wrong video driver, try to reinstall and deselect all graphic drivers. you can install later the good one.

Many thanks for the pointer. It helps a lot.

Just re-install the kaliway, but this time around, I did not customize any install package, except forcing the MBR boot loader stuff, and after the erase->partition->re-installation, it just works: even my wireless card is working.

Earlier, these were what I chose in my earlier attempt:

Vanilla_Kernel

Vanilla_ACPt_fix

NVINJECT_gfnvdia_desktop

HDA_ALC882(p5w_dh)

Realtek_with_1.4.5_UI

BOOT_efi_MBR

Now I have a different question: the default video is very very low-rez. What is the best way to update the video driver? Are any of those in the Kaliway installer any good? I have NVDIA 8500GT card with my Dell 530.

Say, if I use the Kaliway install DVD to install one of those video driver package, and failed, how can I uninstall the bad, and try another? Any pointer will help. I am not sure how to use time machine yet.

Thank in advance.

Get Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo update and update your install. This update includes the latest NVidia drivers which support Geforce8 series.

After the update install NVKush installer which will enable all resolutions on your card as well as QE+CI.
