The Minstrel
System specs are in sig. I booted it on an old 20GB IDE Western Digital hard drive, installed via an IDE disk drive. Almost no problem whatsoever so far. I came across a few problems last night when it kept "crashing" on the Apple loading screen. I did it first without any customised options and it got to the Apple loading screen and just kept loading. Verbose mode informed me that there was something going on with the kernel. Not thinking, I reinstalled a couple of times (don't ask why I didn't change the Kernel, I only got that idea at 3:30 in the morning) and finally used patch 1 without the -legacy flag. I got to the apple loading screen and it crashed again. Reboot, started with sleepkernel, turned the monitor off and went to sleep (this was about 6am ). Woke up at 10am, turned my monitor on expecting to see the loading screen again but hey, the set up screen gave me a pleasent surprise! Problems: -Wireless drivers having difficulty (I'm trying an old D-Link Wireless card that's in my laptop at the moment with Ralink drivers, sucess has been reported on Macs, haven't came across anything about Hackintosh yet). -Takes about 10 minutes to load to desktop. -Ethernet untested! I haven't any means to test it short of taking my PC downstairs. -Slightly sluggish, but it's a very slight latency. -Codecs for video aren't functional. Sound is glitchy and no video is played. Sound on audio files are fine. Aside from that, everything is working 100% as it should. I'm sure I can get the video working once I've got the Wireless up and running, so as far as I can see, these are all very minor problems! Thanks, Kaly, for an excellent release!
