msaspence
I have finally got my hackingtosh up and running However I have put 4x1G ram modules in and although if i go into about this mac and under the pie chart in activity monitor it says 4G when i add up free and used memory it only comes to 3.2G, something i would expect on a 32bit windows system Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112930-hackingtosh-p5w-not-using-all-4gig-of-ram/ Share on other sites
msaspence
I have found a solution now so thought i should post it in case any one else is having the same prob and finds this post i am using a p5w motherboard but expect it is the same for the p5w dh delux other system specs incase they are relevant: intel 2.66 quad core 64bit processor with 4x1gig sdram 667mhz 7something gt or gtx xfx nvidia graphics card (sorry about the somethings but I've have it ages and cant remember, i doubt its important in this case anyway) go into your bios go to advanced tab go to chip set enable memory remap feature and magically all your ram is there Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112930-hackingtosh-p5w-not-using-all-4gig-of-ram/#findComment-799443 Share on other sites

msaspence
yeah i know... but i like to post problems between googleing them and trouble shooting them as it can take a little time to get a reply it does raise another question for me i was under the impression that macs could utilise more than 3.2 gig even on a 32 bit system? is this a feature of their hardware rather than the OS? or have i got this all wrong Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112930-hackingtosh-p5w-not-using-all-4gig-of-ram/#findComment-800186 Share on other sites
peach-os
that´s a good question. afaik it depends on both. I guess with tiger only the mac pro boards could use more than 4 gigs. I have only an imac in the office and didn´t try it with more ram than 2gb. correct me someone if I´m wrong. for your questions in future I recommend this http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=00948655...297:e41g72sr-ba someone in this forum made this search engine.can´t remember who it was it´s a really great help!
