Ok guys listen to this, the craziest thing evar! I HAD a wonderful 10.4.5 install dual booting with windows xp I was using my old 10.4.3 install as the bootloader to get into 10.4.5 because I was lazy and my first few attempts at moving the .5 install to make use of the others mbr failed. I was anxiously awaiting my copy of windows vista build 5308 and when I got it I decided to delete my 10.4.3 instalation and use that partition for vista. Well after a few hours of dinking around with vista scowling at every bit of it I formatted the partition and went to install 10.4.3 back in it's rightfull place using my install dvd prepatched by jas.

HFS+ PARTITION ERROR

Nope it would not load the dvd

I booted into windows and using vmware installed it just fine with no troubles I rebooted and

HFS+ Partition ERROR

okay now I'm getting annoyed, after another vmware install to make sure it didnt get messed up somehow (which didnt work) I had a bright idea, I realized that vista had fu  ed with my mbr on my xp partition changing the boot.ini and such, so I got out my trusty xp disk ran the recovery consol and typed fixboot and wala it worked...sorta I set my 10.4.3 install active and bam no hfs+ partition error, however it stopped loading, I rebooted in verbose mode and saw the trouble

Still waiting for root device

{censored}... ok maybe now it'll boot from my dvd and I can install it natively I thought that the vista {censored} may have compromised my previous attempts at installing it. So in goes the dvd... it crashed... ok verbose mode

SAM Multimedia: READ or WRITE failed, ASC = 0x11, ASCQ = 0x05

WTF Mate?

Ok vmware time booting from the dvd in verbose mode shows no errors it takes me directly to the gui...

HUH?

I'm about to attempt ANOTHER vmware install. I hold little hope that it will work. Does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on with my system? I hate you windows vista you god d :hysterical: ed piece of sh :hysterical: t

I set my 10.4.3 partition as active again before trying another reinstall that would waste my time and in vmware I get the same damned hfs+ Partition error I was getting before.

My system hates me. I never had these problems before vista. stay away from vista!

So here's what I'm doing, I just deleted both mac partitions in partition magic, and I secure erased them just to be safe. Then I'll try again.

Well I deleted my mac partitions through windows, secure erased, created a single new partition with disk part as type=AF, set it active, rebooted with the dvd and walla. it freakin worked.

Disk utility through vmware always reported that my partitions were just fine, however after deleting them and recreating them it magically worked... Does anybody else find it odd that the dvd wouldnt boot natively but would through vmware?

I think my system was just waiting for me to erase my previous installs, because it knows that I burned a lot of hours getting them the way I wanted. It just wanted me to cave in and now that I have it's letting me do what I want. My computer must be female...

I hope this thread helps others somehow, at the very least it helped me think through my problem. I'd love to hear comments about this, it would be nice to understand exactly what went wrong and why. Maybe then I will find peace with losing my hard won installation, for now I'm chalking it up to gremlins and the evil corporation M$ for their horrible beta...

I spoke too soon it booted and installed just fine from my 10.4.3 dvd and then it rebooted to an hfs+ partition error. I booted from the dvd with f8 and rd=macos (the name of the volume containing the new install) -v and it is "still waiting for root device" SUPER DOOPER!

If someone knows what the hell is going on please feel free to fill me in
