Boot direct to a VM Image ?

I've been looking for a while but not really found any solutions to this, so I figured I'd ask here.

 

I have a laptop that has OSX incompatible PS2 and SATA devices. So Native install does not work.

VMware however does work, obviously it virtualises the devices and OSX likes the virtual drivers.

 

Assuming for a moment that performance is not an issue, and just getting something working would be nice:

 

1) Is there any boot image that loads something like linux (for example) and then a BIOS emulator/virtualization tool that will virtualize the hardware, then allow another OS to boot ?

This sounds a bit odd, but apparently the current working Vista licence crack seems to do this kinda thing. It loads linux to emulate a bios which contains a valid OEM key. Surely this kinda thing could be done to enable all (linux supported) hardware to boot OSX.

 

2) If there are EFI emulators out there, can they not be used to provide an abstraction layer between the bios and OSX to allow unsupported hardware a chance of being seen by OSX as something else ?

I might have got this all wrong, but I thought that EFI was essentially a higher level bios, which provided some form of PnP drivers ...?

 

3) Has anyone made a boot disc that boots a cut down windows then uses VMWare as the shell, automatically booting into OSX ?

 

 

Yeah, these seem a bit desperate, but surely something along these lines could work bringing OSX to *everyone*...

 

Or would this EFi_X actually do what I'm after ?
