resiroth
Basically I'm a bit of a noob in regards to compatibility with MAC OSX. I just tried different master slave configurations and eventually it worked lol. I'm not very familiar with these devices but I think they could help me quite a bit in terms of cleaning up my case and helping with airflow. My case is a mystique 632 by coolermaster. I found this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817990001 I think by mounting my two hard drives in my spare disk drive slots I could remove the floppy and the hard drive cage altogether and help airflow and clutter. Also it would probably make the case less cramped which is always a plus. Am I missing something or is this a good idea? I wouldn't really be planning to hot swap but I suppose it would be nice if I was fixing someone elses computer and wanted to see their drive quickly for example. Mostly I'd want it for the space/cooling. Is the vent below the side 80MM fan even necessary? I want very little dust in my system so I'm going to be using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811999199 paired with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811999206 to eliminate dust. Does the vent have any purpose? I find it hard to believe it would help with cooling and I am considering blocking it off to reduce dust. Can you boot from these things? I'm going to be using the DFI Blood iron mobo and I can't find information on their compatibility. If I can boot off these drives with MAC OSX this would be an amazing plus. Has anyone hot swapped SATAs before? Does anyone know if it is compattible with the DFI blood iron? Thanks! Synaesthesia
Seems like a good idea, I don't know. The DFI Blood iron works well. I'm not sure about hot-swapping tho Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/112662-a-possible-lifesaver-solution/#findComment-798380 Share on other sites
U.C.
What you probably want is a HDD Caddy, as 1 they secure the harddrive with the help of screws, which the item you linked to doesnt. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hard-Drive-Caddy-C...k/dp/B000I2JU6A I found this caddy on Amazon, I am sure you can find similar better items. A motherboard is not able to differentiate between a Caddy, and a directly plugged in drive. So they should work. Try not to get one with too many frills as frills means circuitry, which can mean incompatibilty. The one I have is basically just a case with a custom connector. Nothing else. Also SATA is hot swappable, though I would NOT reccomend it, as normally PSU's dont like it much. Yes filters do help, but why buy a case with Fans/Vents if you dont want dust. resiroth
Thanks for the info on the caddy, I found some cheap hard drive mounts already but on my next system I'll look into it. The whole front case has an air filter though so it shouldn't have much dust if I I filter the other fan. The main thing is the side vent looks kinda pointless and I'm wondering if anyone has blocked it off.
