I'm trying to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 (JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 PPF2) onto an tower that's been collecting dust in my closet ever since I got my MacBook Pro two years ago.

So, I have burned the disc image to a DVD and booted from it. However, as I'm booting up, I get the message "Still waiting for root device." I have combed the internet looking for a possible resolution to this problem, but I can't seem to find one which works. I've tried different DVD drives, hard drives, etc. I tried various boot options, such as rd=disk0s1 or platform=x86pc, etc... but to no avail.

I'm tearing my hair out! :)

Here are my tower specs:

Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz (supports MMX, SSE, SSE2) Socket 478

Asus P4S533-MX Motherboard (Chipset: SiS 651 / 962L)

512MB RAM DDR-RAM (PC2700)

nVidia GeForce FX 5200, AGP, 128MB

40GB Maxtor IDE Hard Drive - jumpers set to primary master

IDE DVD-ROM - jumpers set to primary slave

I'd really appreciate any thoughts on getting this to work. Thanks! :)

Okay...so I decided to abandon this board because the SiS chipsets are apparently not well supported right now. I went to a PC junk store and was able to get hold of a virtually new Intel D865GBF motherboard (I'm using my nVidia GeForce FX 5200 128MB card for graphics) for like $30. The install went off without a hitch, once I figured out that there's a difference between an ATX power supply and an ATX 12v power supply... who comes up with this confusing garbage?

:) Yay! I have a hackintosh!
