Methose
so I attempted to use Mac's default FTP server by turning on file sharing and creating a user account, and walked through everything to configure this (I used a guide so I'm pretty sure I had everthing right). But anyway I could never get this to work, (I could connect locally using ftp 127.0.0.1 in terminal, but never from an outside FTP client [yes my firewall has the ports open]). so anyway I gave up and turned off file sharing and downloaded and installed PureFTP manager. This app runs it's own FTPd and this actualy worked for about 3 days. All of a suden today I am unable to FTP into my machine. I can VNC in and I noticed that the default file sharing is turned back on. I turned it off and even rebooted it, but the setting turned itself back on! any thoughts? Why would File Sharing Turn itself on for any reason? please help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/110921-ftp-and-pure-ftp-problems/ Share on other sites
sg
your isp is likely blocking port 21, are you sure pureftp was running port 21 or some other (port?). just turn on 'Remote Login' in the sharing, and when connecting to your machine, get an FTP client that supports 'sftp' protocol, most mac ones do and any decent other client should do on windows or whatever else. Methose
eh got it working. no port blocking problems. Apparently I was unable to use VNC and screenhsharing to make some changes to OSX as well as stoping and restarting the service.
