Jaw3000
I’ve been having a serious stability issue with my 10.5.3 install, where I receive a kernel panic when installing any OS (I’ve tried Ubuntu and WinXP) into a virtual machine (happens with Parallels, VMWare Fusion 2 beta, and Virtual Box). The kernel panic appears to occur when the install is around 53% complete (for Ubuntu). I’ve also noticed some panics when using Remote Desktop and Transmission, but I haven’t narrowed these down yet. I’ve tried a few different kernels, with similar results. Using the Kalyway 10.5.3 update package, the above mentioned kernel panic occurs with the vanilla kernel, where a kernel panic occurs immediately with the modbin kernel upon starting a virtual machine (at least with VMWare). I’ve also tried the older 9.2.0 sleep kernel, which also crashes as previously mentioned as well. I’ve also tried numerous SMbios to no result. My system specs are below. By the way, besides looking at the system.log, is there any way to identify the specific cause of a kernel panic? I’d really like to straiten out these issues so I can have a stable machine to use as a server, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Kalyway 10.5.2 install, upgraded to 10.5.3 through Kalyway update package. Jaw3000
It's been a few days, and I've gotten no response. I'm really stuck on this problem, so if anyone has any similar experiences or knows of a possible solution, I'd love to hear it. If I can't figure anything out, I will probably go back to 10.5.2. How can one trace a kernel panic to discover what specifically is causing it, like a kext or something? That would help in narrowing down my issue. Thanks! scorpioserve
I do not know of a better way to trace the reason for the panic but try taking out one of the 2gig sticks of ram I know this sucks but it worked for me have not had another panic to date it seems to be something to do with it going into dual chanel mode when using 2 chips, if it works at least you would know why, if you figure out how to fix it after that then please give me a shout.
