greedyandy
Hi Does anybody know how I can retrieve any other screen resolutions besides 1024x768? I have a Sony Vaio VGN FS295VP with an NVidia GeForce Go 6200 graphics chip intel pentium M cpu with 1.73 GHz (I have already tried MacVidia but it seems not to be working) further my w-lan isn't working (Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG) and I have no idea if this problem can be fixed and my sound isn't working neither (I think my soundcard is a Realtek High Definition Audio). If anybody could help me I'd be very very thankful! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11042-screen-resolution-on-mac-os-1044/ Share on other sites

Freibiergesicht
got nearly the same notebook (FS115M) yes, no audio, and I tried some tweaking in the kext files with correct hardware strings, couldn't get it to load yes, no wireless with intel 2100/2200BG, people are working on it and yes, only 1024 res possible at the moment. I guess the VESA driver can't read the correct display resolution and just fail-safes to 1024 res. and finally, yes, I found out all of this while actually searching and reading the forums here BEFORE opening a thread to ask questions that are already widely known and answered.... p.s. otherwise, this notebook is working very sweet with MAC OS X! greedyandy
yeah I know - I mean it's really hard to actually find a solution where there are so many posts without answers that dexcribe how you get it to work! but thx a lot even though it doesn't work! yeah and vaio is sweet anyway! the thing that's nearly unbelievable is that on my vaio I have not yet had any problems with win xp - though I know there can be problems since that's not the first computer I have^^ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11042-screen-resolution-on-mac-os-1044/#findComment-71642 Share on other sites
murdoc158
When Darwin is booting it gives you options to enter while booting. Enter "?video" without the quotes. It will show you a list of supported modes. When OSX is booted navigate to /Library/preferences/systemconfiguration/. Then drag the com.apple.Boot.plist to your desktop. Open this file with text editor. You should see a few entries that say <string>xxxxxx</string> and <key>xxxxx</key> What you want to do is type "<string>Graphics Mode</string>" and directly under the previous enter "<key>1280x1024x32@60</key>" Again do this without the quotes, and pay attention to the capitalization of letters. The key section can be changed to whatever graphics mode is supported by your PC. Mine supports 1280x1024 at 32 bits and 60MHz refresh rate. Make sure you enter this correctly or you will not be able to boot again!!! Once this information is entered close the text editor and save the file. Now drag the file back into the /Library/preferences/systemconfiguration/ folder. Authenticate the file, replace, enter your password, and reboot. If successful, you should notice a better resolution on the bootup screen, and from that point on. spamenigma
What you want to do is type "<string>Graphics Mode</string>" and directly under the previous enter "<key>1280x1024x32@60</key>" This worked for me in 10.4.5, however string and key are wrong, what is needed is: <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>1280x1024x32@60</string> Hope that helps!
