Hey everyone,

I had a well-functioning 10.5.2 install, but after upgrading to 10.5.3 I get this enigmatic message upon booting with "update -v".

I've looked up the error and it seems to have been a common one on installs, with a million different solutions. Nevertheless, when I boot with -v I seem to be getting some yellow text for the first time (Something to do with AHCI driver (or something similar) not being able to load correctly) upon booting in verbose mode. I'm not entirely sure on where to go from here-- if I should reinstall the entire OS or try and fix whatever is holding up the boot. I am on a Core 2 Duo machine, was running Vanilla 9.2.2 and updated it to 9.3 via Kalyway's instructions.

I would appreciate any help offered here, otherwise I'll probably just end up formatting and giving 10.5.2 another go.

Thanks!

All right... well I had to go into my BIOS and run my SATA in Compatibility mode instead of AHCI mode... struck me as a bit odd.

After that I also had to switch the AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext files around with patched versions by simcolor to get them working again. I'm back in the same boat I was in before-- with a fully working setup.

Think I'll wait a little while before updating to 10.5.4 when it comes out :)

If you re-install your old AppleAHCIPlatform.kext you had in 10.5.2 you can set your bios back to AHCI mode again!

It was one of those kexts you were supposed to backup!

ps if you do the beta version of 10.5.4 then it breaks nothing!

Hrmmm.... I [unfortunately forgot to back it up], but I took the AHCIPlatform.kext from my desktop Mac still running 10.5.2. Unfortunately there did not appear to be any sort of fix for it! Does it have to do with me updating to 9.3 kernel too? Maybe a boot with -f will change things....

Also, would going back to AHCI change my temperatures and such? I've noticed my fan is on a lot more in 10.5.3 than it ever was in 10.5.2, and I'vemade sure all the thermal and temp kexts are gone... :D
