mgoemmel Posted March 5, 2006 Share Posted March 5, 2006 Hi, I'm trying to install 10.4.4 with Maxxuss instructions from a running 10.4.3. But I run into a big problem. After formatting the 10.4.4 disk with diskutil and installing the package onto it, I'm not able to make a "repair permissions" on the new disk. It's simply inactive. The buttons will become active when I'm selecting my current 10.4.3 disk (which is booted at this moment), but selecting the 10.4.4 will gray out the repair button immediately. I've tried to install it without doing the "repair permissions" step on 10.4.3 and only did it after the 10.4.4 was started. But then I run exactly into the problems Maxxuss described: SMB not possible, DMG not mountable etc. What I'm doing wrong here? The 10.4.3 8G1111 system works wonderful here with SMB, DMG mounting, simply everythings works. So what's going wrong with my diskutil??? By the way, I'm using to USB harddisks, one for the 10.4.3 and one for the 10.4.4 to install. But this should not be a problem, shouldn't it? OSX diskutil seems not to be able to "repair permissions" on a volume, which is not the booted one AND is an USB volume. After putting my hd into the IDE bus of my computer, diskutil works like a charm.
