i too have the same problem of freezing during installation of kalyway 10.5.3 update. i tried to follow more than one guide but the problem is once i double click the update package it reaches to around 40% progress and the the computer freezes and i can do nothing but restart and then no matter what i do i cannot get into the system.

my system is

ga-n680sli-dq6

e6600 overclocked at 3.00 GHz

gtx8800

4gig DDR2 800

3x250 gig sata HD

question: Do i have to be using the vanilla kernel as i am not?
