AwwJeah Posted March 4, 2006 Share Posted March 4, 2006 i am trying to install osx on my partitioned hard drive. i took the .iso file and applied the jas patch to it and then burnt the file to a dvd -r accrodingly. i pop the cd in the tray and it asks me to hit any key to instal Mac OS X. i do and i eventually get to the gray screen with the apple and the little spinny thing. thing is, it's been sitting there for a good twenty minutes or so. a look through the forum shows that other people have had this problem, but only after a few minutes, they get some kind of error. mine, on the other hand, just sits there and the little circle thing keeps spinning. is this normal? should it take this long? my guess is that it's not supposed to. perhaps i'm just impatient. if anyone else has had this problem, is there a cure? or am i just impatient? edit: oh, and my specs, btw Gateway M460 1.86GHz Intel Celeron Pentium M 1.00 GB of RAM ATI Mobility Radeon X600 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10889-gray-screen/ Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you are using IDE, try making the drive the primary master, and the dvd drive its slave. If you are using IDE, try making the drive the primary master, and the dvd drive its slave. i have a Mobile Intel® 915GM/GMS/PM Express chipset. i'm not sure if i'm using a sata or an ide drive. how would i go about checking? i'm using a notebook if that helps any. edit: okay, upon further googling, i am most definitely using a sata drive.
