Hi folks,

I had a native install of 10.4.1 working perfect on my Acer laptop sounds ,network,vesa3.0,itunes the works but i tried to install 10.4.4, which wouldnt boot properly (bad iso download i think) So i reloaded 10.4.1 , it works really well apart from audio. I followed the instructions in the wiki to find device id etc. But i dont have AppleAC97audio.kext in the extensions folder so i cant edit it. I'm wondering if i was using a different kext before for the audio as i have only used the OSX86 DVD twice and its completely unmarked so i doubt its defective.

my onboard sound is a Conexant AC-Link Audio with a dev id - 808624C5

(full info on card PCI/VEN_8086DEV_24C5SUBSYS_00641025REV_0)

If I do need to use AppleAC97audio.kext (which i have downloaded) how do i install and do i need a certain file for 10.4.1 ?

I have tryed dragging the kext into the correct folder then rebooting into -s then

/sbin/mount -uw /

chmod 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97audio.kext

Chown root:wheel / /System/Library/Extension/AppleAC97audio.kext

but upon reboot i get an error saying the kext wasnt properly installed

Can anyone help or should i just track down 10.4.3 to install instead and give up on the version of 10.4.1 im using

Many many thanks for any help its driving me up the wall :hysterical:
