external USB, active partition, still getting 'b0 error'

When i boot from the drive doesn't the drive index number change compared to when i installed off the DVD?

I've installed OSX86 on an external USB drive. Partition is definitely active and bootable. OSX boot loader is on the external drive.

When i booted the instalation DVD the external disk was disk1.

If I remove the DVD and boot the external drive, the external drive should now be disk0 right?

I have Linux running of a second USB in this way and for that install exactly this happened. I had to change the menu.lst file in the linux file system to boot hd(0,0) instead of hd(2,0) as it was during install.

Is there an equivalent to the menu.lst for OSX?

Thanks for any help,

Dave.
