aquamarine2.0
I just found this forum tonight. I can't express how glad I am that I did I've got an HP Pavilion dv6408nr notebook that is less than a year old. It came with Vista...and guess what. I HATE IT WITH A PASSION! Pretty much the only cool thing about Vista, in my opinion, is the Aero theme. And if that's the only reason I'm saving it...well, it's not much of a reason. So I thought I'd be cool and try to put XP on my notebook instead. Well after screwing around with the XP installation for hours and coming up with nothing (the CD is scratched & screwing it up), I had to reinstall Vista. Now it's being stupid and restarting on me randomly. I can only run it in safe mode. So right now as I type this, I am doing a system recovery (again) in hopes I can get Vista running (somewhat) smoothly again. Yeah, I've always wanted a Mac. My notebook was a graduation gift, so I really didn't have a choice in the matter. I want OS X. Now after pissing around with XP and Vista tonight I'm a little weary of rendering my notebook useless. However, I'd like to have Leopard on it, and as close to a perfect installation as I can get. So I'm a noob when it comes to this Mac stuff...all I've had is Windows my whole life. I have no clue what vanilla kernel and all that {censored} is, so you can probably understand that I'm pretty lost browsing these forums. Therefore, I have a couple questions: 1) Which is safer, doing a dual boot with Vista and Leopard or just biting the bullet and putting Leopard in? (I have a Vista recovery CD, so if all is lost I can return it to factory settings.) 2) Can anyone tell me what to do, in simple terms? Like, explain this stuff to me? I would love it and be forever indebted to anyone who would do so. I'm sure I'll need drivers (perhaps?) and stuff... some things I've run across: I'd like for Sleep to work, and the anywhere scrolling on the touchpad would be cool. I've got a synaptics touchpad So if anyone is up to the task, post here. I'll then post all the computer specs you need HUGE THANKS to anyone willing. I'm just a young soul in this very strange world (of Mac) hoping I can learn a bit 'bout how to give & take. Then check out this guide. -> http://dilnalomo.googlepages.com/ What are the specs on you laptop? AMD Turion or Intel? If you are AMD, I recommend you download Zepyroth OS X..
